RINO Reminder

Senator Lamar Alexander is the traitorous senator from Tennessee who voted to confirm the racist judge, Sonya Sotomayor. Never again will I vote for Lamar Alexander. He is not up for re-election until 2014, but I intend to post this reminder each and every month until then. I hope he either resigns or they run a true conservative against him in the primary. I challenge my fellow bloggers to do the same if you have RINO's in your state that need to go. I may add my other senator, Bob Corker, to this reminder. I'm waiting for him to cross the aisle again and work with Dimocrats.

It is with sadness that I have added my congresswoman, Marsha Blackburn to the RINO Reminder list. She voted for the BOEHNER bill and has voted to raise the debt ceiling, thereby COMPROMISING and selling us out to the Dimocrats and the establishment Republicans. I have let congresswoman Blackburn know that I am looking forward to voting for a primary challenger against her in 2012. I hope there is one.

Shepard Smith Pees His Pants on National TV

Well, that's not exactly the story but it never fails that if there is a car chase going on somewhere, Fox News' Shepard Smith will cut away from whatever is going on to report about it. I do believe he gets so excited over a car chase that he no doubt pees all over himself.

Well, Thursday, a car chase jumped up to bite him on the ass when the person being chased got out of the car and committed suicide on camera. Smith immediately apologized and admitted he was wrong.

Shep, what is the NATIONAL significance of a car chase? Why are you reporting on this at all? Seems to me there are more pressing things going on in the world. I read somewhere that the other news networks did not even bother to report this. Fox News needs to get a clue.

So Shepard Smith has apologized. Wanna make any bets that when the next car chase comes along, things will be back to business as usual?

The Worldwide Redistribution of Your Wealth

Yes, it could happen my friends and if Obama is re-elected it might be very likely. The United Nations wants to impose taxes on a global scale. They want a tax on all currency trading in US Dollars, the Euro, the Japanese Yen and the British Pound Sterling. They want a "tiny" tax on all financial transactions. Of course there are new taxes on carbon emissions to combat the hoax of man made global warming, and lets not forget a 1 percent tax on all those EVIL billionaires.

Of course the purpose of all this is to take wealth from the prosperous countries of the world (mainly the US) and DISTRIBUTE it to the poorer countries of the world. Hey, I thought we already did that. It's called FOREIGN AID. But it would be so much better if tin pot dictators were in charge of the distribution than our own lunkhead politicians.

I know many of you are shaking your heads thinking this could never happen, but if the messiah is elected for a second term, I'm not so sure. Obama already thinks we should be a second class nation and that we should no longer be the super power of the world. I can easily see him turning over the distribution of wealth (he believes in wealth distribution) over to the thugs at the UN. If he is in his lame duck second term, he would probably just make it happen by executive order and nobody would call him or challenge him on it.

Just something to consider my friends.

The REFS are Back in Town

I recorded the NFL game last Thursday night between the Ravens and the Browns. This was the first game following the lockout of the usual NFL officials. I'm telling you I thought for a minute the players, coaches, and refs, were all going to start hugging and kissing. There were smiles, handshakes, and obligatory butt pats galore.

The game seemed to go well, indeed at a much better pace than some of the games with the replacement refs. The officials made sharp and decisive calls. There was no head scratching and looking at one another trying to decipher the correct call. All in all, it was a refreshing change. Yes, it is nice to watch people who apparently know what the hell they are doing.

I'm sure we are looking at a short honeymoon phase. Before too long the regular refs will be back to their usual position of derision. All it will take is a couple of "questionable" calls and things will be back to normal. Such is life and such is football.

STRONG TYPHOON HITS JAPAN

POWERFUL TYPHOON MAKES
LANDFALL ON JAPAN'S MAIN ISLAND
www.japantimes.co.jp - A powerful typhoon that was traveling northeastward Sunday along the coast of western Japan made landfall on the main island of Honshu after hammering the southern islands of Okinawa, where it killed a man and injured more than 50 people while causing extensive blackouts, the weather agency said. At 7 p.m., Typhoon Jelawat made landfall in Aichi Prefecture in central Japan, with the season's 17th typhoon moving through the Japanese archipelago, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. In the village of Yomitan in Okinawa Prefecture, 29-year-old Nobuhiro Bando was confirmed dead after being washed away by high tides while he was fishing. The municipal government of the central Japan city of Nagoya briefly issued an evacuation advisory for a total of 57,000 people in 21,000 households amid fear of flooding due to rising water levels of rivers in the city.

A survey by Kyodo News on local police showed that at least 116 people had been injured across the nation on Sunday. The Ishinomaki city government in Miyagi Prefecture in northeastern Japan, issued an advisory for 11,000 people in 4,700 households in Miyagi Prefecture. The city of Hachioji near Tokyo recorded winds of 137.2 kph, while the cities of Fujinomiya and Hamamatsu in Shizuoka Prefecture saw 120 millimeters of rain per hour, prompting the weather agency to issue a warning for a record-breaking deluge in a short period. The agency is warning of torrential rain, thunderstorms and high waves, forecasting rainfall of 150 mm in Tohoku and Hokuriku, and 120 mm in Hokkaido over the 24-hour period through Monday night. According to airlines, over 500 flights mainly in western Japan have been canceled Sunday, while Japan Railway Co. decided to halt part of its shinkansen bullet train services across the nation.

A major typhoon bore down on Japan's main island on Sunday, with winds gusting up to 180 kilometers per hour and heavy rains that threatened to disrupt the Tokyo area and potentially cause problems for the Monday rush hour. Rainfall was expected to reach 500 millimeters in some areas over a 24-hour period. The storm hit the southernmost main island of Okinawa on Saturday, where it left many people injured, and more than 300,000 homes without power. Due to lack of observance of yagya (ritual of sacrifice), all around the world there are disturbances in nature, which in the form of karmic reactions are affecting all of us.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
It is a misperception, that the West has almost all that it needs. All of us have probably heard about devastating hurricane and storms. … So rather than going into the intricacies of comparison of  natural calamities and problems that we face in India and America, the underlining principle is that, things are not as rosy in the west as are portrayed in our media and TV. They are quite grave in many ways. Yes, if people do not worship and perform yajgya then the result is, not just that they don't get rains; rather they don't get rains in proper way. We should not be naive and simple in understanding that if someone is performing yajgya or is following dharma then suddenly the rains start coming. No that is not completely correct. That is just a causal connection between the two. But this causal connection is much more broader and deeper.

OLYMPIC VEGETARIANS HIGHLIGHTED

“OLYMPIC VEGETARIANS”,
ELITE ATHLETES WHO SHUN MEAT
www.guardian.co.uk - Lizzie Armitstead was just 10 years old when she told her parents she wanted to become a vegetarian. Last July, she won Great Britain's first medal of the Olympic Games, taking silver in the gruelling 87-mile road cycling race, no less. In this article written by Adharanand Finn, an editor for the Guardian, he explains: I was brought up as vegetarian from birth and have been a long distance runner for most of my adult life. One of the most common misconceptions I've come across is that vegetarians are pallid, gentle creatures who would recoil in a tough sporting arena. Despite the fact I was breaking school records on the track, people still questioned my diet's ability to make me strong. I spent six months last year living and training with some of Kenya's greatest long-distance runners, for my book, "Running With the Kenyans". The athletes (from the Rift Valley) were not strictly vegetarian, but ate very little meat, which is usually reserved for special occasions such as weddings or funerals. Although there were occasional non-vegetarian meals served in the athlete training camps, we lived mostly on a diet of rice, beans, ugali (a dough made of maize flour and water) and green vegetables.

The list of gold medals the Kenyan athletes have won on the track is almost endless. (On a personal note, I returned home to run a marathon in under three hours.) However, most nutritionists are still unconvinced of the benefits of a vegetarian diet for elite sportspeople. While it can mean a diet low in saturated fat, which is good, it requires athletes to be more vigilant about their intake of protein, iron and vitamin B12. “It is hard work,” says Linia Patel, a sports nutritionist at the British Dietetic Society. “It can be done, of course, but I take my hat off to those who do it.” Yet as Armitstead has shown yet again, vegetarians continue to rise to the very top of their sports. She follows a long line of Olympians who have managed to excel without “eating corpses”, as she herself puts it. In honour of her medal, here are a few other great vegetarian Olympians: Paavo Nurmi, Murray Rose, Edwin Moses, Carl Lewis, Emil Voigt, Christopher Campbell, Martina Navratilova, etc.

23 year old Lizzie Armitstead won the silver medal in the Women's Road Race at the Olympic Games 2012 in London. The grueling 87 mile race through the rain soaked streets of London took more than 3 1/2 hours to complete, and Lizzie was just milliseconds away from taking the gold. Lizzie is proof positive that a meat-free diet is optimal for even the most extreme athletes, considering the strength and endurance needed to get through such a competition. Lizzie decided to go vegetarian when she was just ten years old - she was sick of eating “corpses”, as she explains - and is cited as saying she would have done it even earlier had her parents allowed her to. She started riding a bike when she was only four years old, and by the time she was eight she was competing not only in bike races, but also triathlons (which include cycling, running and swimming). She eventually moved out of girls-only races to compete with, and win over, the boys teams too!

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
Until around the mid-twentieth century, most of us were taught that meat contains essential amino acids that could not be obtained in vegetarian foods. It was thus implied that a vegetarian diet was inferior and incomplete. But now the tables have turned - without any controversy, medical opinion now favors a vegetarian diet. Meat is often considered a relatively toxic substance for human consumption. Health authorities worldwide agree that heart attacks, cancers, and many other diseases are more prevalent in the meat-eating population than in the vegetarian population. ...  Vegetarian food provides potassium to the body, which is considered a beneficial element. It also has a more alkaline base that is beneficial to good health in many ways. Vegetarian food is considered a complete diet, especially if there are sufficient dairy products and nutrient foods like soya in the diet.

Selena Gomez produces Disney's "Wizards of Waverly Place"

Selena Gomez is adding one more title to her name. Yes, She is going to produce an hour long special Disney's "Wizards of Waverly Place."

Her reunion (she got her big break on as "Alex" in 2007), special will be aired on Disney early next year. She is now a movie star, chart-topping singer, Emmy winning actress and producer just only at her 20. The show aired its final episode Jan. 6 but Gomez and the rest of the cast are reuniting for one more hour-long special.

"I'm not ready for it to be over, so I just kind of want to do one more thing," Gomez told Radio Disney's Ernie D about the upcoming special.

"It was my idea to kind of start this, because I wanted to do it really badly," she said during the interview which airs Friday. "I want to make sure I promise the cast and the fans a really, really good hour-long event that they can enjoy and will leave them feeling good."

The special episode takes the Russo family to Tuscany, Italy, to meet their long lost relative, but as usual, Alex (Gomez) gets herself into wizard trouble which comes to blows at the top of the Tower of Pisa. The episode is set to premiere next year.

Gomez has had her hands full since "Wizards" ended. She's working on new music with her band, "Selena Gomez & the Scene," and voiced "Mavis" in the new animated flick "Hotel Transylvania." Earlier this year she filmed "Spring Breakers" alongside Vanessa Hudgens, Heather Morris and Ashley Benson in which she plays a college bad girl on spring break. The film hits theaters in March.

The Power of Gemstones Part - II: Pt. Umesh Chandra Pant

Yellow Sapphire or Pukhraj is beneficial in attainment of knowledge of law, wit, worldly happiness, long life, glory, prosperity, mental peace, physical power and paraphysical bliss. With so many positive characteristics, Pukhraj is a gemstone which is worthy to be worn by all. Authors, businessmen, traders and writers would be most benefited with the Yellow Sapphire or Pukhraj.

Pukhraj is highly recommended for girls as this can remove obstacles that may cause any delay in marriage. Also, a happy conjugal marital life is blessed to a Pukhraj wearer. Pukhraj acts as a pacifier as it helps in calming down the anger. Strengthening bonds in family and relationships is another positive impact of Pukhraj.

Pukhraj bestows wisdom, vigour, good luck, name, fame and longevity. Marriage related problems don't arise in a Pukhraj wearers' life. Also, they progress spiritually and are fearless of evil vibrations. Pukhraj is highly beneficial for people suffering from fever, kidney problems, cough or rheumatism, arthritis, insomnia, impotency and ulcers. Yellow Sapphire brings wealth and health to the wearer.

Diamond or Heera is for Venus (Sukra). Diamond is an excellent gemstone to end all conflicts in your marital life and it enhances one's beauty. It brings good fortune; improves financial conditions, and gives the wearer peace of mind. Medically, wearing diamond is good for protection against urinary diseases, sexual organs, syphilis, skin and uterine diseases and diabetes.

Blue sapphire or Neelam represents Shani or Saturn which rules the zodiacs Capricorn and Aquarius. Shani is considered the most malefic planet among all but the final effect of Shani is always good. It throws one into adversities and misfortunes, but ultimately, it all sums up to be good for the person. Neelam is effective in removing poverty, sorrows, diseases, and accelerates prosperity, life-span, and gives overall strength to the wearer. Neelam also brings back any property or funds lost before wearing the stone. If Neelam is unfavorable, it does all the opposites. The wearer's efforts and hard work may go waste and Neelam may end up shoving the wearer's life down to the destruction lane. Hence, Neelam should only be worn after proper consultation from an astrologer and test it a week before finally wearing it.

Gomed or Hessonitee helps in countering the negative effects of Rahu in a person's birth chart and helps in accelerating life in a positive direction. Gomed is honey-tinged blackish in colour. Presence of a powerful Rahu in horoscope spells mental disturbances, worries, tensions and strained relationships. This strong impact can also bring abdominal disturbances, mental pressure, struggled life, and hindrances in business, quarrels, shortage of money and a disturbed career path.

Wearing of Gomed is highly recommended for those who are in legal practices, court affairs and people in politics. Also, anyone associated with gambling can wear Gomed. It gives mental peace and frees one from tensions. The honey-tinged Gomed is associated with Rahu. A transparent Gomed with uniform colour, brilliance and lustre has the power to neutralise the evil effects of Rahu. Gomed provides clarity of mind, accelerates spiritual growth and removes fears. Stomach ailments are removed and so are any delays in career path. It clears the hurdles and helps one race towards the ambition minus hindrances. Professional excellence is another facet of Gomed.

YOGA HELPS SPECIAL NEEDS KIDS

YOGA FOR SPECIAL NEEDS KIDS
NOT A FAR STRETCH, INSTRUCTOR SAYS
http://manhattan.ny1.com - An ancient form of exercise for the body and soul is being used to help improve the lives of children with special needs. For five-year-old Hiro Saburi, sitting serenely for even a few minutes is no easy task. This boy from Queens (New York, USA) has autism. “He was really like up and over there and there. So hyper he wanted to calm down but he didn't know how to do that,” said Hiro's mother, Mika Saburi. With each conscious breath and held stretch, Hiro is learning how the body and mind are linked. For the last two years he's been practicing a discipline dating back to antiquity, but with a modern tweak, catering to children with special needs like his. It's called “Yoga for the Special Child.” “They can concentrate better. They can learn quicker. They become more peaceful,” Yoga for the Special Child” Founder Sonia Sumar. Sumar founded the discipline in the 1970's after giving birth to a daughter with Down Syndrome. Although she died at 15, Sumar says teaching her daughter the basics of yoga enhanced the quality of what little life she lived.

Sonia Sumar trains occupational and physical therapists and teachers at Integral Yoga Institute in the West Village. She's made it her life's work traveling the world, helping special needs children. “By working with all the other kids around the world, I filled up all the emptiness that came with her passage and I feel her with me all the time, inspiring me,” Sumar said. It's not always easy. On this particular afternoon, Hiro didn't make it through his 30 minute session. But even in the short time he practiced yoga, it seemed to have a calming effect.
“The way it is to be more balanced between mind and the body which is beneficial,” Mika Saburi said. “This is a work that is soul to soul. When you establish that kind of connection with someone, there are no limitations,” Sumar said. Hiro's mother hopes yoga will make his transition to kindergarten in the fall smoother and life beyond much easier.

Hatha yoga is an ancient set of physical and mental practices designed to bring the body, mind and breath into balance. Teaching children yoga has many positive benefits for them. An integrated series of balanced Yoga increase body awareness, strength and flexibility. The specialized breathing exercises and relaxation techniques can improve concentration and reduce hyperactivity. Through yoga children can develop body awareness, build self-esteem, improve focus and concentration, enhance posture, learn calming techniques; above all it is enjoyable and very natural for children to be in the postures. A yoga class for children at Manduka Yoga in Toronto, is a spontaneous journey of song, verse and circle play to inspire, creative movement, cooperation, concentration, coordination and independence.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
Yoga prescribes physical, mental and spiritual disciplines which will free one from mental and physical diseases. ... Asana -”bodily postures”: This process of various exercises and bodily postures brings physical and mental steadiness as well as health and vigor.  Pranayama - “control of breath”.  Prana means life air and yama means to control.  It involves controlling the inhalation, exhalation and the retention of the air we breathe. ... Yoga practices are also meant for the holistic upliftment of mind, body and spirit.  By regularly practicing Yoga, Pranayana (breathing exercises) and by maintaining a natural life style in one’s eating, resting, work, etc., a person can be fully relaxed and free from tension and anxiety.  When a person maintains these practices properly, he or she will be free from heart diseases and mental anxiety.

1000th Post FINALLY!!!

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

So... it's here... the 1000th entry. Yes, I know that the past hundred have taken like two years to do... but yeah, my bad. So how am I going to blow this b**ch out of the water? I have no idea. I REALLY wanted to post my original masterpiece of Panda Porn that I've been teasing you with for years... but as you know, I haven't been able to find it... and hence have not been invited on Tosh.0 for a Web Redemption & film tasteful pornography for the entire kingdom of animals... but alas I can not find the original. However, I do have the original footage still... and can probably find a system to piece it together. It was regretably easy to write, direct, edit and... kinda star in... but yeah, that won't be today. So how will I disappoint you more today? Well, I could do some movie reviews... to start... here we go...

First up, Dizzy & I watched "The Hunger Games" last weekend... and it stars Jennifer Lawrence & Donald Sutherland... but it's based on books that I never intend on reading... and after watching the movie, it only further confirms that. I'm getting ahead of myself though. Basically, in the future (from what I can gather having not read the books & the movie refusing to explain the plot on its own despite being 2.5 hours long) there are 12 districts, where District 1 is the shining utopia of the 1% and it goes down to District 12 which are the... I think farmers of dirt & makers of young child laborers. Anyway, every year, they randomly pick a boy & a girl from each district to be placed in a horrible environment full of weapons & deadly creatures reminsicent of Survivor meets the Truman Show... and they battle to the death until there can only be one winner, to whom they bestow riches. Basically it's what Survivor should be... except they just randomly capture children to go Thunderdome on each other. Why? Rating, b**ches! So in District 12, they pick a girl... but her sister (Lawrence) volunteers so she doesn't have to go to die. Along the way, the sister is trained by Woody Harrelson (yeah, he's in the movie) to be a killing machine, even against the higher districts fully trained warrior children... and frankly, I'm going to stop right here.

This movie pretty much sucked. I get the whole saving your family from dying by volunteering, then giving it your best shot, so the story is not the main problem despite the many questions as to why this is a real thing. I'm sure plenty from every district would just volunteer (much like high schools in every district in America have kids volunteer for football & MMA everyday) so that's not it. The movie was just longer than it needed to be... dragged on & on... I swear the death/burial scene for one character towards the end took 20 f**king minutes for no reason, she only had 2 minutes of screen time before that... the ending just kinda happens... there's just... no point to the movie. Watch at your own risk. If you've seen it, you know what i mean.

Next up was a little better, which is surprising for a horror flick... but it's "Cabin in the Woods" starring Chris Hemsworth & Richard Jenkins. Basically, your typically five friends go to a cousin's cabin in the woods for a weekend getaway by the lake... and that's basically all I'm going to leave you with other than... it's written by Joss Whedon & director Drew Goddard apparently (I checked afterwards)_, which explains how it's actually pretty awesome. I highly recommend this flick. Go check it out now!!!

Aside from that, this weekend Dizzy & I are going to Truckee... oddly enough, to hang out at her aunt's cabin in the woods... and I think there's actually going to be five of us... I wonder if I'm the big dumb jock in this Scooby Doo esque setup. Anyway, if there's a hatcher murderer or werewolves involved, I'll be sure to send you pictures. Happy 1000th entry everybody!!! I'll keep you posted on the Panda Porn... Coming Soon... all over your face...

The Post Turtle

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher, whose hand was caught in the squeeze gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his role as our president.

The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Obama is a 'Post Turtle.'

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him, what a 'post turtle' was.

The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'.

The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain. "You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, he's elevated beyond his ability to function, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put him up there to begin with."

I keep reading about how the UN is wanting the US to pass laws making it a crime to criticize a religion. Of course this applies only to Islam. If you're a Christian, Jew, Buddhist, Hindu, or a member of the church of What's Happening Now, the prohibition does not apply.

Perhaps it is just me, but I think any religion that advocates crashing airplanes into buildings inhabited by innocent civilians and strapping bombs to their women and children needs to be criticized just a little, doncha think?

Well I guess they're just gonna have to fix me up a nice little cell, cause I ain't gonna shut up. I can get 3 squares a day and gubment funded healthcare for FREE! I can be one of the TAKERS for a change! Yeah Baby!

NASA'S 2030 MISSION TO MARS IS GOING VEGGIE

NASA BUILDS VEGGIE MENU FOR
PLANNED MARS MISSION IN 2030s
http://www.sci-tech-today.com - Researchers are building a menu for a planned NASA mission to Mars in the 2030s, mixing and tasting the vegetarian concoctions they hope to send with the astronauts. Travel to Mars opens the possibility that astronauts can do things like chop veggies and do a little cooking. It may be possible to boil water with a pressure cooker too. The menu must sustain a group of six to eight astronauts, keep them healthy and happy and offer a broad array of food. That's no simple feat considering it will likely take six months to get to the Red Planet, astronauts will have to stay there 18 months and then it will take another six months to return to Earth. “Mars is different just because it's so far away,” said Maya Cooper, senior research scientist who build the menu along with Lockheed Martin. Astronauts who travel to the space station have a wide variety of food available to them, some 100 or so different options, in fact. On Mars there is a little gravity, allowing NASA to consider significant changes to the current space menu.

Travel to Mars opens the possibility that astronauts can do things like chop vegetables and do a little cooking of their own. Even though pressure levels are different than on Earth, scientists think it will be possible to boil water with a pressure cooker too. One option Cooper and her staff are considering is having the astronauts care for a “Martian greenhouse.” They would have a variety of fruits and vegetables - from carrots to bell peppers - in a hydroponic solution, meaning they would be planted in mineral-laced water instead of soil. The astronauts would care for their garden and then use those ingredients, combined with others, such as nuts and spices brought from Earth, to prepare their meals. The top priority is to ensure that the astronauts get the proper amount of nutrients, calories and minerals to maintain their physical health and performance for the life of the mission, Cooper said. Already, Cooper's team of three has come up with about 100 recipes, all vegetarian because the astronauts will not have dairy or meat products available. It isn't possible to preserve those products long enough to take to Mars - and bringing a cow on the mission is not an option, Cooper jokes.

NASA is already making plans for their Mars mission which will take place in 2030. Since eating is the first thing that people need to do in order to survive, scientists are studying the best menu for astronauts: that is the food will be healthier and tastier. To ensure the vegetarian diet packs the right amount of protein, the researchers are designing a variety of dishes that include tofu and nuts, including a Thai pizza that has no cheese but is covered with carrots, red peppers, mushrooms, scallions, peanuts and a homemade sauce that has a spicy kick.  “The menu is favorable because it allows the astronauts to actually have live plants that are growing, you have optimum nutrient delivery with fresh fruits and vegetables,” researcher scientist Cooper said. Is there anything more to say?

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
Recently a group of eminent doctors called the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), themselves members of the American Medical Association, have decided to change the US consciousness on human nutrition, particularly among the medical community.   Armed with decades of nutritional research data, the PCRM - which is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. consisting of doctors and laypersons - frankly says:  “The fact is, it is very easy to have a well-balanced diet with vegetarian foods. Vegetarian foods provide plenty of protein. Careful combining of foods is not necessary.  Any normal variety of plant foods provides more than enough protein for the body’s needs. ... Excess protein has been linked to kidney stones, osteoporosis, and possibly heart disease and some cancers.  A diet focused on beans, whole grains and vegetables contains adequate amounts of protein without the ‘overdose’ most meat-eaters get.”

iHeartRadio Music Festival saw some raibow extensions in Britney Spears

Britney Spears rocked some rainbow extensions to her beautiful hair last week at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, making it clear that she came to party and wasn’t going to leave until the house was brought down.

The 30 year old popstar joined Ryan Seacrest, 37, on stage during the Festival in Las Vegas September 21. Spears also showed off her trim figure in a black mini-dress by David Lerner and glitter platform heels by Charlotte Olympia.

"Hello, Las Vegas!" a beaming Spears said on stage. "You know why I love this festival. It's packed with every kind of music fan." (Performers included Jason Aldean, Rihanna and Bon Jovi, among others.) “This is Vegas, baby, so we’ve got the world’s most insane deejays here to keep the party going all night long,” she said.

Spears also said she was a fan of the music festival because of the diversity of music fans when she joined Ryan Seacrest onstage. Whether it was the atmosphere of Vegas or just the young, hip influence her new job as judge on “The X-Factor” has had, Spears seems to be enjoying herself lately, and fans are responding.

Though Spears only recently decided to experiment with a more colorful 'do, fellow X Factor judge Demi Lovato, 20, rocked rainbow hairstyles throughout the show's nationwide talent auditions this summer. The two musicians joined veteran judges Simon Cowell, 52, and L.A. Reid, 56, on the FOX hit, which airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST on FOX.

This Just In: I'm Going Somewhere!

This morning I am off to visit our passive-aggressive neighbors to the north.  This means tomorrow's post will not exist.  However, I will return on Monday, October 1st with regular updates.  In the meantime, here's where I'll be in Hamilton if you wish to avoid me:

Before I leave though I thought I'd update you on the Budnitz, since we had our first day real day out on the town yesterday.  First I locked it up while I got a haircut, which I needed badly since without one there was no way Canadian customs would let me into their country:

Any thief operating in this residential part of Brooklyn was likely to be an opportunist on the lookout for unlocked bikes rather than the professional kind equipped with power tools, but even so I secured it with chain lock, u-lock, and cable lock through the dainty ass-pedestal.  Note how delightfully "urban" the titanium downtube looks when it's chained purposefully to a city bike rack.  I'm sure Old Man Budnitz is delighted:

Though he'd probably be less delighted to know how scratched the bike already is.  In any case, when I emerged from the barbershop the Budnitz was still there, thanks no doubt to that King/Winfrey talisman.  The Budnitz was also appalled to learn that I had gotten my haircut for less than $200.  I explained to it that I don't go in for that sort of nonsense, and anyway I was only going to Canada, where sporting a designer coiffure would be casting pearls before swine.

As for the experience of actually riding the Budnitz, unsurprisingly it rides nicely, though that requires ignoring the constant ticking sound which I had attributed to the loose skewer but is in fact probably coming from the bottom bracket:

I tightened the wedge bolt on the eccentric bottom bracket as much as I dared but the sound is still there, and it underscores exactly why these short-term bike tests are so ridiculous.  Anyone qualified to properly evaluate a bicycle would also be driven mad by such a sound, which means they're either going to be miserable the whole time, or else they're going to spend the entire testing period trying to eliminate it.  As for me, I don't have time to be pulling bottom brackets and regreasing them (I have Canadas to visit for one thing), and there are few things more embarrassing than riding around on a $5,600 titanium city bike with a ticking bottom bracket.  With every pedal stroke you're telling the world, "I'm rich and clueless!," though in my case hopefully my cheap haircut makes it clear that I'm merely clueless.  In any case, it would be nice if Budnitz had supplied me with a properly-assembled bicycle so I could focus on riding the thing, but I guess that's too much to ask from a design firm.

The other problem with the ticking bottom bracket is that it makes "Cat 6" racing difficult, since it eliminates the element of surprise.  Make no mistake: the typical Budnitz owner is going to want to Cat 6 the shit out of this thing, and in a sense it's the ideal Cat 6 racing machine in that it's a bike built from top-of-the-line racing components that is completely unraceable.  So after getting my haircut I decided to swallow my pride (which is easy since my pride is so tiny) and test it out on one of Brooklyn's premiere proving grounds, the "hill" in Prospect Park:

First, at about :08 seconds, I pick off the guy on the Pista.  Then, at :14 seconds, I give the couple out for a leisurely bike ride "The Look" (which, on a Budnitz, is a rarefied blend of the one Armstrong shot at Ullrich, "Blue Steel" by Derek Zoolander, and having to fart).  At :29 seconds I make mincemeat of the middle-aged woman in the sandals.  Then, at :38 seconds, I finally get "on terms" with my most dreaded adversary, the guy on the blue road bike wearing running shoes, and in a stunning burst of douchebag-fueled ticking titanium fury I drop him and power to the "summit."  The bottom bracket protests loudly the entire time, and I can assure you the motor sound at the end of the video is from a nearby lawn-edger and not some secret Cancellara power-assist on the Budnitz, which I realize is difficult to believe given my blistering speed.

But the real test would soon follow.  After my mighty victory, I took the douche chariot to one Brooklyn's douchiest neighborhoods, DUMBO, where I had a lengthy appointment.  (As for the nature of that appointment, all you have to know is that it was protracted douche business.)  Unlike the neighborhood in which I got a haircut, there was a chance the Budnitz might attract a professional thief here, but I was sure to give it a fighting chance by securing it with plenty of hardware:

There it sat until nightfall, and when I returned it was still there:

Sure, it wasn't Manhattan where they really steal bikes, but this unattended sojourn at a bike rack brought the Budnitz that much closer to not getting stolen during my tenure.  Next I fired up my Knog Blinder (which nearly gave me a sunburn):

And with that I was off.

Speaking of Knog Blinders, that's what winners of The Second Biennial Cock-Off contest will win, and if you still want to enter please do so before 11:59pm tonight, which I've just arbitrarily decided will be the deadline.  Good luck, and happy cocking.

Lastly, one more thing about the Budnitz: it is equipped with Avid BB7 mechanical disc brakes.  I happen to like these brakes for the simple reason they're very easy to maintain, and for this reason I currently use them on no fewer than three (3) of my bicycles, which means I have a pretty good amount of experience with them.  On the Budnitz, however, they do something I've never experienced on any other bike.  What happens is, when you're gradually slowing (as you might when you're approaching a stop sign or a place to get a $200 haircut), they seem to hit a certain frequency at which they howl like a ship in a harbor:

The issue isn't the sound, though.  (If you don't like brake noises don't use Avid BB7s.)  The issue is that along with the sound comes a deep vibration that travels through the entire bike and then right up to your scranus.  It's extreme and rather disconcerting, though I'm sure there are some people who would find such a thing pleasurable.  I've never experienced this with Avid BB7s on any other bike, and I don't know if it has to do with the swoopy titanium fame tubing or it's just some confluence of atmospheric conditions, pad wear, lunar phase, and so forth.  If it is the frame, then Budnitz may have inadvertently designed a taint-blaster that does to the scranus what the building in "Ghostbusters" did to New York City.  But again, I've only had the bike for two days, and it's yet another reason why short-term bike tests are ridiculous.

And with that, I'm off to Canada with the tingling from last night's ride still fresh in my downstairs area.  Have a great weekend, ride safe, and I'll see you on Monday, October 1st.

Love,

THE MINDY PROJECT -- review

I like Mindy Kaling. I’m a big fan of her writing. She wrote some terrific OFFICE episodes, her pieces in the New Yorker are funny, and I even enjoyed the play she wrote about Matt Damon & Ben Affleck. As an actress, she got her laughs as a supporting character on THE OFFICE.

So I was very curious to see her pilot, THE MINDY PROJECT. The reviews seem polarized. Critics either like her
