You know, I pretty much don't give a hoot in hell about France one way or another but I have a few comments on their election of socialist president, François Hollande.
He made a couple of interesting comments such as, "I am proud to have been capable of giving people hope again". Hmmm, where have we heard that before?
Also he says, "Austerity can no longer be inevitable!", which translates that he's just going to keep spending money that he doesn't have and not worry about paying the bills. Oh, but he's going to raise the marginal tax rate on those making over a million bucks to 75 percent I guess to try to pay for all his new ideas. Anyone with half a brain knows that you cannot tax your way out of a debt mess when spending is the problem.
He's going to drop the retirement age from 62 to 60 for those working 41 years or more. He's going to hire more people to boost France's state education system, and he's going to give foreigners the right to vote in local elections. Sweet Wifey believes this will lead to a Muslim takeover of France. She's probably right. Texas Fred has some interesting thoughts on the matter as well.
You gotta admit that things have been on a downhill slide for France ever since Napoleon Bonaparte and it looks like the slide is going to continue. Barack Obama must be salivating over Hollande's good fortune.
