But I blame no one but myself, I want to share my story to warn others about these so-called ‘quick fix’ surgeries.” “I didn’t realise the dangers. I thought it was a harmless injection that would give me the perfect bottom. But the reality was the silicone used wasn’t suitable for humans,” she said. It was, in fact, bathroom sealant. 

Apryl admitted: “I didn’t do any research. A combination of naivety, misplaced trust and insecurity led me to take this disastrous decision. I trusted her because she seemed so professional, and I had no reason to think anything awful was going to happen”. “She carried out the procedure in her daughter’s bedroom.” ... “My body had a massive allergic reaction to it which left me at the brink of death. I was in so much agony that, by that point, dying would have been a release. The only way doctors could save my life was to amputate my buttocks, my hands and feet.”
“My message is never to look for something outside of ourselves to validate ourselves, we are already born whole and we are already born perfect and we are already born complete. And there is nothing outside of us that would make us feel good if we don’t feel good on the inside,” she said.

An American woman decided to treat herself to silicone injections that would boost her booty and give her the figure she’d always dreamt of. But the injections turned out to be industrial rather than approved silicone, and after catching an infection she had to suffer a quadruple amputation, and having her buttocks removed. Now, she shares her story in a bid to stop others potentially harming themselves due to vanity. “I want to warn others of the dangers of black-market surgery. My greatest message is we have to learn to love and accept ourselves for who we are.” It is vital that people see that happiness is not achieved by means of beautifying the body, but by serving the Supreme Lord.

A judge is investigating whether it was a response to "harassment" and "school humiliation." Rodrigo Troche left three letters, one for his parents and two for his brothers, in which he explained the reasons for his drastic decision. The young man jumped from a ninth floor around noon on Tuesday. Social networks are at the heart of the debate. The priest Juan Rajimón, rector of the College Roque Gonzalez where the adolescent attended, asked parents "be alert" and "review the behavior" on the Internet. 
The priest explained that "Rodrigo was a good student, quiet and reserved, in the class we did not detect he was going through a difficult situation; he had good grades and excellent behavior."

Rajimón considered that in these cases "is that we have to be alert, work more with teens. Times have changed, especially with them. There are things they know and adults do not, for example, the issue of social networks, young people do not take dimensions of the things that they upload and when they do, they do not how to eliminate things from there." Judge César Yaya, who instructs the case of suicide of this fourteen year old, deemed it necessary to sensitize society so that no more cases of school bullying and humiliation leading to tragic ends occur. He also indicated that, he is considering that the suicide has been caused due to the harassment and humiliation at school.
"The event is being researched and it is something that happens more than we think and often with our own children. An adolescent lives situations which for an adult may not seem so tragic to take such a dramatic decision, but for them it is very traumatic," he said.

School intimidation (or bullying) is a common form of violence against children. According to a new research from UNICEF between 50% and 70% of students in Latin America have been harassed or have witnessed bullying incidents. While school abuse is not a new phenomenon,  recently, technology and social networks have increased exponentially the reach and impact of this problem. Cyber abuse (cyberbullying) is conducted on the Internet and cell phones and may have, such as bullying, negative impact on mental health: substance abuse and suicide. Bullying is not “guy thing” not a game. It affects the bullied child, as well the bully and the viewer. Don't you think it's time to make a change in society?

SIGN OF STROKE FOR WOMEN

http://shine.yahoo.com - Middle-aged women battling depression may be twice as likely to have a stroke as women in the same age group who are not depressed, a new study finds. "Our findings, however, suggest that depression may be a stronger risk factor for stroke in mid-aged women than was previously thought," lead researcher Caroline Jackson, an epidemiologist in the School of Population Health at the University of Queensland in Australia, said in a statement. The study focused on women aged 47 to 52.
A stroke occurs when damage to an artery deprives the brain of oxygenated blood, causing brain cells to die and allowing toxic chemicals to build up. Approximately 795,000 people in the United States suffer a stroke each year (75 % of stroke victims are 65 or older). 

Jackson and her colleague Gita Mishra, a professor of life course epidemiology at the University of Queensland, looked at data from 10,547 women aged 47 to 52 years, none of whom had a history of stroke. About 24 % of the women surveyed said that they suffered from depression and, during the course of the study 117 of them had a stroke for the first time.
Jackson and Mishra found that depressed women were 2.4 times more likely to have a stroke than women who did not say they were depressed.
After eliminating other risk factors - including age, socioeconomic status, high blood pressure, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and lifestyle choices like smoking, drinking, and exercising - middle-aged women with depression were still at higher risk for stroke than others in the group.

This study did find a link between depression and stroke. "Depression is a strong risk factor for stroke in mid-aged women, with the association partially explained by lifestyle and physiological factors," researchers concluded. "We need to carry out further research to identify the mechanism by which depression affects stroke risk," researcher Caroline Jackson said in a statement. The stroke is the third leading cause of death in the U.S., and it kills about 150,000 people annually. Life is very difficult, there are problems at each step; but the biggest problems and their corresponding solutions are found within ourselves.

http://main.omanobserver.om - An army of road sweepers and refuse collectors keep the streets clean in the heart of Hong Kong - but on the outskirts, growing mountains of waste are testament to what campaigners say is an environmental crisis. While the city may look well-kept, its three huge outdoor landfill sites are piled high with rubbish and are set to reach capacity by 2020, according to the government's Environmental Protection Department (EPD). Some predictions say the first one will be full in a year or two. 
The majority of the 13,000 tonnes of rubbish dumped at landfills in Hong Kong each day is termed 'municipal solid waste' (MSW), generated by households, business and industry. With a population of more than seven million, Hong Kong is sending 1.3 kg of MSW per person to landfills daily. 

Most of it is 'domestic waste' - rubbish from homes and institutions including schools, as well as refuse collected by public cleaning services, from food to furniture. Its per capita generation of domestic waste is significantly higher than other leading Asian cities, including Tokyo, Seoul and Taipei.
In a statement, the EPD acknowledged Hong Kong "has a waste crisis" and added that this can only be dealt with "by taking multi-pronged actions, ranging from waste reduction at source to enhancing waste recovery, as well as building a comprehensive and modern waste treatment infrastructure that can handle different types of waste". The government and green groups believe that waste charging for households and businesses according to the amount they dispose of is the key to reducing the amount of rubbish generated.

It is not the government the only one responsible of tonnes of rubbish which are dumped everywhere in the big cities, the public's attitude to consumption has been partly blamed for the problem. "We need to have a clear roadmap for waste reduction, otherwise our rubbish will be on the streets in seven years' time," environmental scientist Professor Jonathan Wong, of the Hong Kong Baptist University, said. "Hong Kong is a fast-moving city and people want to keep up with the trends, whether it's clothing or iPhones," said Angus Ho from the Hong Kong environmental NGO Greeners Action. Do not be a passive onlooker of the destruction of our world. Be active. Do something!

http://news.belta.by/en - The law on organic farming may be passed in Belarus in 2014, Nikolai Ivanchenko, head of the Initiative group, vice-chairman of the permanent commission on ecology, environmental management and the Chernobyl disaster of the House of Representatives, told reporters. The MP said that organic farming is very important in the world today. More and more people prefer organic food. 
“Production of ecologically clean food increases every year. For example, in China the annual growth is about 20%. Chinese import of organic food to Europe reaches $6 billion. This is a big economy, and our country cannot stand aside, it must also participate in this process,” said Nikolai Ivanchenko. According to him, this is an extremely important task for Belarus. 

Belarus can set up a harmonious system for the production of organic products by bringing together MPs and all agencies concerned, according to the MP. “We need to develop the bill on organic or ecological agriculture, and on organic products,” said Nikolai Ivanchenko.  Pursuant to the orders of the head of state on the development of organic agriculture in Belarus, the government has already adopted a relevant resolution, developed a plan of activities for the production of organic food products. The MP stressed that organic farming would help the country preserve one of its main resources - land. 
Today farmers use various chemicals, mineral fertilizers that leave a negative effect on soil. Organic farming is one of the ways to maintain soil fertility. Besides, eco-friendly production will help conserve the nature, improve people’s health and the demographic situation in the country.

Good news as regards Organic Farming! The House of Representatives of the Republic of Belarus has recently hosted a roundtable to assess the efficiency of the implementation of the project of international technical assistance in organic farming. The event is aimed at promoting cooperation and experience sharing between Sweden, Lithuania and Belarus in developing sustainable organic farming and permanent food communities for enhancing the level of knowledge in organic farming and its benefits for the nature of both Belarus and the Baltic region. “We will take foreign experience into account, it is valuable and important for us,” the MP Nikolai Ivanchenko said. We should support organic farming because Nature by itself provides everything to produce healthy, nutritious fruits, vegetables and grains.

Organic food is grown in a natural way, without chemical fertilizers, without pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or any other poison. And, of course, with original, unaltered, unmodified seeds. ... Plants are perfect as they are. They fulfill a purpose in nature. So there is absolutely no need to do speculative experiments with gene-technique on the seeds, in order to modify the plants. ... The customer has the power to support the production of organic food, restrict the production of genetically engineered food and the use of chemical substances, simply by buying natural, organically grown foodstuff and not accepting altered food. And preferably buying directly from farmers or local stores. We have to educate and inform ourselves about how to support local communities.

Agencies - AAshley Owen of Animal Aid says that the World Day for Animals in Laboratories is not recognised by the UN. Ironically, it does recognise World Malaria Day – a disease that benefits from animal research. Owen claims that 3.5 million animals are "subjected to experiments", yet nearly half of these are the birth of a laboratory mouse. Only 2% of experiments involve substantial suffering. Thousands of primates are poisoned to death every year inside British laboratories and hundreds more are subjected to appalling brain experiments. The Europe-wide campaign to end primate experiments has united animal protection groups as well as compassionate MPs and scientists across the continent. On the other hand, a Letter signed by celebrities was handed into the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street on Wednesday (24 April) – World Day for Laboratory Animals.

The petition is calling for less secrecy about what happens to animals in laboratories. Jan Creamer, who runs the National Anti-Vivisection Society, says the Government is thinking about changing the law so that everybody can know exactly what happens to animals in experiments. She says it will enable people to look at other ways to replace animals in all experiments, as has happened with cosmetics testing recently. At the moment, animals are still used in tests for medical treatments. 
On World Animal Day, Jan says: “Following the huge success of the end to animal testing for cosmetics in Europe, the National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS) is asking people to make sure their household products are cruelty free – look on our website.” Jan also wants people to get involved in Government ideas about freedom of information on animal experiments.

April 24th marks World Day for Laboratory Animals - a United Nations recognized day of international commemoration of the suffering and killing of millions of innocent sentient beings in laboratories throughout the world. Campaigning organisations in the UK and across the globe, mark today a time to reflect upon the pain and suffering daily caused to millions of animals. In the name of a scientific practice, millions of animals are horribly abused and killed by vivisectors. Today and everyday we should remember the millions of our little brothers who have been killed, and to redouble efforts to hasten the end of all animal experiments.

When you observe the problem of unconscious consumption, some measures must be taken. That's the way how the conscious consumer arises. Consider some characteristics of this ethical, healthy and ecological position. First of all, the conscious consumer avoid all products having to do with the killing of animals, including food, fashion (costumes made of fur), vanity (many laboratories experiment with thousands of animals in order to produce cosmetics and toiletries), fun (we have enough news about the shows where ridicule and torture creatures), customs and traditions (such as hunting, a bloody pastime, etc.). The conscious consumer does not use items that have been produced under the agony and exploitation of other beings.

Health officials in Oklahoma are notifying 57 patients who tested positive for hepatitis C and three patients who tested positive for hepatitis B after visiting oral surgeon W. Scott Harrington's office in Tulsa and a city suburb, according to a joint statement issued Wednesday by the Oklahoma State Department of Health and the Tulsa Health Department. 
At least one positive HIV result was also reported, but policy prohibits the Oklahoma State Department of Health from releasing the number if it's less than three. Health officials stress that it's not yet clear how many of the positive patients were exposed at Harrington's office, if any.

More than 3,200 of Harrington's patients were screened for HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C after health investigators found sterilization violations and other infractions at the oral surgeon's office. Harrington voluntarily surrendered his dental license on March 20. He will appear at a revocation hearing before the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry on August 16. His attorney could not be immediately reached for comment. The dentistry board launched its probe after one of Harrington's patients came down with hepatitis C. 
Investigators raised a number of sterilization and "cross-contamination" alarms - such as "unauthorized, unlicensed" employees using IVs to sedate patients and improper handling of needles. The outward cleanliness of the office belied the mess elsewhere, Susan Rogers, executive director of the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry, said, noting that "just basic universal precautions for blood-borne pathogens" weren't followed.

In USA, at least 60 people have tested positive for hepatitis or HIV after visiting an Oklahoma dentist slammed by the state dental board for poor sterilization practices. Dr. W. Scott Harrington allegedly re-used needles, a practice that can contaminate ostensibly sterile drugs with dangerous diseases. He is also accused of using rusty equipment that was not properly cleaned. Hepatitis C is a contagious liver disease that can lead to liver failure and death. Hepatitis B is a similar liver disease that can range from a mild illness to a serious, chronic condition.  We need more medical professionals who really care about the patient welfare.

IT IS EASY TO CREATE FUTURE

BUT DIFFICULT TO ERASE THE PAST

http://newindianexpress.com - One’s present life will not all change at once because one still has some funds of good karma accumulated in reserve and one does not see the dark future one is preparing for oneself. As soon as these reserves of accumulated good karma run out, that horrible future takes over. It is easy to create the future but it is very difficult to erase the past. In fact one does not create one’s future, it is figurative and it would be more precise to say that one chooses the direction one wants to go in.  One does not create one’s evil fate but one steers oneself towards it. One decides only what direction one will take, that is all. 
Why does one have certain talents or one lacks in certain talents?  Why is one ill or healthy?  Why is one prone to accidents? Why is one liked or disliked?  Why is one active or disinterested in the life around oneself?  Why is one attached to morality or immorality?  Why is one attracted to spirituality or materialism?

The questions are answered by examining one’s karma or individual karma and its laws. What one sows in this hour is reaped by one’s posterity for several generations and one can then call it the karma of the family. What the men of today or community resolve upon and execute, comes back with a blessing or a curse upon the future of their race when they themselves have passed away and are no longer there to rejoice or to suffer, this can be called as karma of the nation. Mankind as a whole has a karma, which can be called as world karma, what is wrought in its past will shape its future destiny though individuals may come and go but the karma of the race which they have helped to form continues through time.
The working of the karmic forces can be better understood by having an understanding of the various levels of consciousness. For the sake of simplicity one may consider that there are three mind levels, the conscious, the subconscious and the superconscious.

The law of karma continues birth after birth, and when there is a new creation, the same karma comes back with the living entities. "What started as an event in Sydney in 2007 with two million people has now become a tradition across the country and across the world," Dermot O'Gorman, head of WWF - Australia, said. "It's now an organic, people-powered movement... which is fantastic." 
Last year more than 150 countries participated in the event which saw some of the world's most iconic landmarks dim, and this year the movement has spread to Palestine, Tunisia, Suriname and Rwanda. Newcomers to be plunged into darkness, such as the statue of David in Florence.

In Australia, where Earth Hour originated with an appeal to people and businesses to turn off their lights for an hour to raise awareness about carbon pollution, the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge will be among the first sites to participate globally. This year Earth Hour Australia is asking participants to "switch off for good" and move to renewable energy. As part of the push Sydney Opera House will not go dark at 8:30 pm (0930 GMT) but will instead glow a deep green. With restaurant diners eating by candlelight, Outback communities going dark and iconic buildings standing in shadows, O'Gorman believes Earth Hour has played a part in drawing attention to energy use. 
In China, Shanghai's famous Bund will turn off its lights while the Yangtze River bridge will be plunged into darkness. In Japan, daily illuminations of the city's signature Tokyo Tower will be switched off, with visitors able to pedal bicycles to generate power to illuminate an egg-shaped art work.

A number of prominent public buildings across all the world will be plunged into darkness tonight as part of Earth Hour. Millions of people in 7,000 towns and cities across the world will turn out the lights tonight at 8.30pm. Earth Hour is a global initiative which began in Australia in 2007. It aims to highlight the need for action to tackle the world’s environmental challenges, including climate change. Last year hundreds of millions of people in more than 7,000 cities and towns worldwide switched off their lights for one hour to demonstrate their support for the protection of the environment. In addition, there are small actions which we can do every day to save energy and protect the environment.

Amsterdam (Reuters) - Doctors should not prescribe Bayer's acne pill Diane 35 and its generic versions to new patients, the Dutch medicines watchdog said, the second country to act since European authorities started to investigate safety concerns. The European Medicines Agency has started a formal safety review of the German drugmaker's pill, which is also used as a contraceptive, following a request by France. French authorities suspended sales of the medicine in January after four deaths over the past 25 years were linked to its use. Bayer said at the time it was "surprised" by the move. 
The Dutch Medicines Evaluation Board (CBG) advised doctors not to prescribe Diane 35 and generic versions to new patients. Bayer's Dutch unit said it knew of no new scientific evidence that had any bearing on the risks associated with using Diane 35.

Lareb an independent body said on its website it had received 10 reports of deaths that possibly involved the use of Diane 35 or one of its generic versions. In February, the medicines watchdog asked doctors, pharmacists and patients to pass on any reports of side effects from Diane 35 to the Netherlands Pharmacovigilance Centre, Lareb, an independent body that collects and analyses reports of adverse reactions to medicines and vaccines. CBG uses Lareb's data to help make its recommendations. A spokeswoman declined to give an immediate response to Lareb's findings. She also declined to comment on whether Bayer would appeal against the CBG's advice that doctors should not give Diane 35 to new patients. 
No-one at Bayer's German headquarters was immediately available to comment. The European watchdog said last month the risk of blood clots with the medicines was low but well known. It urged patients currently taking Diane 35 or one of its generics not to stop and to consult their doctors if they were concerned.

France announced it has banned the anti-acne drug Diane-35, which is also used as a contraceptive, because of health fears. Some drug assessment European agencies are recommending not to prescribe the Diane-35 pill to new patients, following fears about its effect on health. The Dutch drug assessment agency CBG said in a statement it wanted to wait for the results of a survey by the European medicines agency before taking a decision. The organisation also recommended the drug only be prescribed to treat acne and not as a contraceptive. Apparently, the reports of four deaths in France and ten other deaths that have involved the use of Diane-35 or one of its generic versions, are not sufficient to achieve widespread public concern when a large company is involved.
