Cleandix

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

Well, since last time when I got you caught up on the week with Jackie D, here are a few movies that I watched last week that you may be interested in checking out… or not…

First up was “ParaNorman” which is a CGI kids flick from about a year ago I think… but it’s on Netflix now. The story is about a boy named Norman who lives in a city that was cursed by a witch a few hundred years ago… and long story short, he accidentally raises the dead & now zombies are walking the streets. Basically, if you like “Shrek” & “Toy Story” and all those flicks, you’ll probably like this. I’m a kid at heart so I enjoyed it… even though it really wasn’t too memorable other than one of the last lines of the movie – “My boyfriend loves cutesy things like this.”

Next up was a documentary called “That Guy… Who Was In That Thing” that was a compilation of interviews from 16 actors who you probably recognize if you saw them… but probably not by name… and basically their respective stories of how they came to be actors, the audition process, experiences in the movie industry, typecasting, and the triumphs & hardships of the life they have chosen. I found it very interesting & being a bit of a movie nerd I kind of knew some things about the process but it was very intriguing to watch. I highly recommend this film for anybody who’s thinking about being an actor… whether to discourage them or just to prepare them for what their goal entails.

Next up was a documentary called “Cleanflix” about something that I kind of experienced firsthand while in Utah, the meteoric rise & controversy of Cleanflix & other companies that made “clean” versions of Hollywood movies. Basically, in the early 2000’s, a video store near Provo, Utah made doctored versions of movies that took out violence, sex, vulgar language, drug use & other adult situations and content that many of the customers in their area (Mormons) either couldn’t see because of their beliefs or just didn’t care to see. Thus turning an R-rated movie like “Schindler’s List” or “Saving Private Ryan” into a more palatable PG or at least PG-13 version… and the movie stores were able to sell for a modest fee… and business was BOOMING!!! Well, of course, once Hollywood found out… they stepped in & said they were pirating, destroying their product, copyright infringement & all that… leading to court orders to cease & desist. Well, some of them didn’t… and the battle went on from there. The movie was pretty good… and not gonna lie, it made me a little homesick… at least until they interviewed some of the people & then I remembered why I don’t want to live there. Check it out.

Here’s the thing about this movie… as a business man… my question is why the f**k didn’t Hollywood see this as an opportunity? I mean… yeah sure, cease & desist for anybody selling your product without giving you your cut but… if the consumer (in this case, the relatively small demographic of only a few MILLION Mormons across the globe) is saying “Hey, we want to see your movies… especially the ones that we hear about all the time like the Matrix, the Spielberg & Tarantino movies, the action flicks with the big cars & jets and all that… but we just don’t want to have to see torture porn & hear Samuel L. Jackson talks about people who have sex with mothers in a derogatory way. Isn’t there a way that we could do that?” I would think CHA-CHING!!! About a week later I’m setting up my own site for requested DVDs that can be made for not only Mormon eyes… but maybe you’re okay with the love scenes… but just don’t want the gore & blood… or you’re okay with the fight scenes, but just don’t want to hear them swearing during the dialogues. I know, right? “I realize you have to fight to defend your family, but be a gentleman about it for f**k’s sake.” It seems like once the backlog is caught up from past releases, you pretty much already have the system in place for new releases (on the Blu Ray version only of course) and then BOOM!!! You’re riding a Bentley to work like a f**king mogul!!! See, this is why I don’t understand how I’m working a 9-5. I need to get some startup capital and start my conglomerate.

Next up was a documentary called “Being Elmo” that chronicled the life of Kevin Clash, the puppeteer behind Elmo & many other creations throughout the years. Kevin grew up in Baltimore, Maryland in the 1960’s and from a very young age he knew what he wanted to do… he wanted to be a puppeteer. Even as a child he built his own puppets, developed shows & background stories, and basically by the time that he was a teenager, he was already brought on board programs like Captain Kangaroo & the Great Space Coaster… and then eventually into the Muppet Show & Sesame Street. It’s actually a pretty incredible tale about a man who has an overriding passion to do what he does every day. It felt a lot like “Jiro Dreams of Sushi” but with puppets instead of sushi. It’s an incredible tale & I hope that you’ve all seen it already. My only major problem with it… was that it was narrated by Whoopi Goldberg… and it was awfully distracting because she wasn’t particularly good with it. I’m not saying that it should have been narrated by Morgan Freeman or Oprah or anything but… just not Whoopi. Sorry. Ooh… Fun fact, Kevin Clash was also the voice of Splinter in the TMNT live action movies of the early 90’s. You’re welcome…

Lastly, I leave you with the 80’s masterpiece that is “Over the Top” starring Sylvester Stallone & Robert Loggia. Sly stars as Lincoln Hawk, a truck driver who surprisingly picks up his estranged son (maybe 10-12 years old) from military school to drive him across the country to meet up with his mother (dying of cancer or something) & the rest of the wealthy family that raised him. Along the way, two things become clear, one… his son is kind of an arrogant prick… but a little fatherly advise helped with that… a little bit. Secondly, maybe I just didn’t get it. Okay, the character Lincoln Hawk had a relationship with this woman of financial means… they have a child… and then he disappears, presumably because the father didn’t want him around & all that jazz, whatever. Now that the mother is dying… she wants him & his son to hit it off or something… and the father/grandfather (Robert Loggia by the way) doesn’t want that to happen because… well, he’s a f**king truck driver who hasn’t been around for over a decade while the boy was being raised. I can see that. Furthermore, I haven’t even mentioned that Lincoln is also one of the greatest arm wrestlers in the world. Why? Because it really doesn’t matter in all honesty. Okay, so… spoiler alert, the mother dies just before they meet up with her, the son blames Lincoln for not driving fast enough or something, runs off to his grandpa (who raised him & lives in a f**king mansion so… yeah) & Lincoln walks away. But wait, he wants to have a relationship with his son… so what does he do? He goes to see him at the mansion… and drives his truck (his livelihood by the way) through the front gate, through a giant fountain, through the porte cochere & into the foyer of this mansion. Okay so… you’re going to jail, whether he presses charges or not… for destruction of property, reckless driving, attempted vehicular manslaughter, whatever all of the above… also, you just wrecked your $200,000 truck that I’m guessing you’re leasing from somewhere or still making payments on… and also, I don’t know of anybody who’s going to go “Wow, dad just drove his semi into the front room, I guess that means that he loves me… or that he’s bat sh*t crazy.” It’s the latter. So then… Lincoln’s in jail (gasp) & basically the grandpa says leave us be & you won’t rot in jail, the kid’s like “Dad, what the f**k?” but he gets out of jail in time to go to the arm wrestling championships & make it all right… if he can win.

Okay… that’s just what I kind of have wrong with this movie up through Act 2… and there’s plenty more that I haven’t brought up, just I feel like I have to have you watching it with me, otherwise all is lost. Act 3 is full or crazy stuff too but… anyway, the movie is pretty horrible… but laughably so. Perhaps I’ll have to do some kind of Adam Carolla inspired “Basic Cable Commentary” for this flick one day because… well, Dizzy seems to think that my blog is pretty amazing (despite viewership being on the low side) and perhaps the way to go is with an accompanying podcast as well. So keep an eye open for that…

Also, big news... I'm going to be visiting Utah in July!!! There will be hanging with family... as well as former coworkers kind of having a nice reunion where there will be barbecue & beer & reminiscing about the good ol' days I'm sure. I'm really excited about it... and Dizzy is too because she's going to along for the ride. We're also trying out Allegiant Airlines for the first time. I'm a little curious how that's going to turn out... but we shall see.

Anyway, that'll do it for this entry. Have a great weekend everybody!!!

Kung Fu Treachery

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

Seen a few movies the past few weeks that I haven't really told you about... so here you go...

First up is "21 Jump Street" starring Jonah Hill & Channing Tatum... or is it Tatum Channing? The ex-gigolo guy from that Step Up movie who now is in everything... you know the guy. Anyway, it's the updated retelling of the classic TV series that formerly starred the likes of Johnny Depp & Richard Greico. This time though... they at least realize the pretty unrealistic plot line of fresh cops from the beat being used to infultrate a drug ring by posing as high school students... and it's a hilarious little comedy with special guest appearances by the likes of Ice Cube as a police chief (wasn't he with NWA once?), Nick Offerman (aka Ron Swanson), Rob Riggle, Chris Parnell and James Franco's little brother... we'll just call him Frankie Franco... he looks exactly like Freak & Geeks Franco. If you're looking for a laugh, I highly recommend it.

However, if you're REALLY looking for a laugh... and can stand a little reading of subtitles (or speak Spanish), then I recommend Will Ferrell's latest on DVD entitled "Casa de mi Padre" which is a take on the wonderful Telemundo dramas that we all watch & enjoy the reactions, acting & tig o' bitties. Will Ferrell is his usual funny self even though everybody's playing it straight with the jokes just kind of coming out of the cheesy production values, plot holes, lines of dialogue, etc. Ron Swanson, er Nick Offerman also comes in for a few scenes & is hilarious as... what I can only assume is himself playing a DEA agent who speaks Spanish with an American accent... but a fine moustache. Anyway, check it out. Oh the story? Oh a Spanish farmer (Ferrell) is pulled into his family's drama when his brother... you know what, just watch it. You should've zoned out on the plot as soon as you read "Spanish farmer (Ferrell)" and disregarded the plot.

Next up is one the new straight to DVD animated reboots from DC Comics... and this one was for "Wonder Woman" starring the voice talents of Keri Russell, Alfred Molina & the incomparable Nathan Fillion. The plot is about the origins of Wonder Woman aka Diana of the Amazons and her whole backstory. Basically the plot involves ancient Greece & the Gods fighting and in a big battle, the God of War Aries (Molina) is about to be killed by Diana's mother (voiced by Virginia Madsen) when Zeus steps in, puts Aries in prison on a outopian paradise island, along with all the Amazons (dear diary... JACKPOT!!!) and they're there for about 2000+ years. Well, after two millenia of sexual frustration, one of the amazons crack & help to free the only penis she's ever seen... even if it's the God of War... and he devises a plan to get his powers back. Oh... and where does Diana come in? She wins a tournament to go out & get Aries back before the end of the world... with the help of a pilot named Steve (Fillion) who crashed on the island to help with getting around NYC. Oh yeah... and it's actually pretty well done. I enjoyed the movie thoroughly... from the Fillion wisecracks to the story & everything. I recommend it since it may be another 20 years or so before you see a live-action Wonder Woman movie... which in my opinion is pretty ridiculous... but again, my opinion. Come on, DC! How many reboots of Superman can you do before you just move on?

The gem of the past few weeks reviews though, is "Expendables 2" starring... well, every action star over the past 30 years I guess. Okay, maybe not quite... but did you see the first one? They're all back... minus Mickey Rourke (who really only had 3 scenes anyway) and there's more from Bruce Willis & Arnie... and then you throw in Liam Hemsworth (Thor's little brother), THE Chuck Norris & Jean Claude Van Damme (spoiler alert: in one scene, he has bat wings under her arms when he's trying to look bad ass... and it's very off-putting). Anyway, you don't really need to know the plot... it's a bunch of guys kicking ass & blowing sh*t up. That's why you watch it. It's not going to win awards. There's explosions, one-liners, grunts, horrible dialogue, plot holes, and all of the other stuff that you expect... but that being said, I can't wait to see it again... and fun fact: If there was a REAL Expendables 2 video game out there with all the different modes of blowing up that were in the movie (helicopter, planes, ground, caves, smart cars, tanks, etc) then I would probably purchase it. However, the one that I noticed on the PS Store is basically the equivalent of Battle Axe with guns. Not too awesome. Anyway, the movie is pretty amazing... especially if you're a fan of the first one. I saw watch it.

Other than that, work was been the usual... but I'm getting more recognition for the hard work I put in, so that's cool. Football is offically returing and I can't wait for the upcoming Lions - Raiders preseason game that Dizzy & I will be attending on Saturday. Saw the Raiders playing the other day & they didn't seem to be in unison... but it's preseason. Hopefully they'll get it together soon. Also excited about college football coming back & of course the full professional slate. Dizzy is already aware that my weekends can often revolve around football... so she may want to work more on those dates unless she's interested in watching... but of course, she's eager to learn the game... and we may do a live blog someday so that you can hear & see & smell & feel all the craziness that goes on in my apartment on a game day when we have people over.

You know... Bacon day will be on opening weekend of college football if I'm not mistaken... so you may get a taste... but then again, we may also be focused on delicious salted meats & general awesomeness... with video games & drunkenness in the evenings. YAY BACONIA!!! Also, getting REALLY excited about the vacation in Utah coming up in 2.5 weeks. Everybody in Utah is excited to meet Dizzy & I'm excited to see everybody there... and there will probably be stops at the Dinosaur Park, Dinosaur Museum, the Family Reunion... and now... apparently the Utah State Fair will be going on mere blocks from my dad's house. So yeah... the cup runeth over with activities for that trip. I'll be sure to keep you posted. Have a great weekend everybody!!!

Behold the Brady Six

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

There was some great football the past few days, wasn’t there? The Texans won their first playoff game in franchise history against the Bengals. The Saints & Lions had a bit of a shootout at the Superdome… and I was kinda hoping the Lions might get their 2nd playoff win since 1954, but now the Saints are coming here to San Francisco for what should be a GREAT game. Tebow worked his magic against the Steelers… and now I kinda want him to pull out the upset of the Patriots next week. I can see it now… Broncos & 49ers in the Super Bowl. I think the odds for that going into the seasons would’ve been about 1600 to one if both were about 40-1 shots. Anyway, still a lot of steps to go before that happens.

Last night, I watched some special by ESPN about “The Tom Brady 6” which basically talked about Tom Brady’s unlikely rise to superstardom. It starts out about how he wasn’t even the starting quarterback on his high school team here in the Bay Area, so he wasn’t highly touted. He went to Michigan where he started out at the 4th or 5th quarterback on the depth chart… and the best that he could plan to do was backup to Drew Henson, probably the biggest recruit in YEARS for the Wolverines. Well, Drew went pro in baseball after getting a little outshined by Tom, so he got the starting job. Then after college, he was really only even mildly sought after by two teams after his pre-draft workouts… so there were SIX quarterbacks drafted ahead of him. He fell to the sixth round, to the New England Patriots, and he was their 4th stringer. There was even a story about how he grew up idolizing Joe Montana… and wanted nothing more than to be a 49er… and they were looking for a quarterback… and they were one of the two teams interested… and in the third round, they picked… Giovanni Carmazzi out of Hofstra. Now, you may be asking yourself WHO??? Yeah, he didn’t last… but having six QBs drafted ahead of him, and a little bitterness towards the 49ers, only fueled Tom to be better & work harder… so he did. Then he worked his way to backup to Pro Bowler Drew Bledsoe, as happens in football, Drew got hurt, Tom stepped in… and 3 Super Bowl rings later he hasn’t looked back & hasn’t continued to strive to be better… and he has a baby mama actress to go with the supermodel wife. Play on playa!

The moral of the story: Sometimes things don’t go as planned… like most of the time. You can only control what you can control. There will be plenty of adversity in your life… and you may not feel that you get the recognition that you deserve… but the only way to change that is to step up & do better, be better, live better. Who knows? Do you think if Tom Brady was picked by the 49ers instead of what’s-his-name (who by the way is a farmer with goats now apparently) that he would have been motivated to do what he’s done? Would he have stepped in for Jeff Garcia one day, led the 49ers to a few Super Bowls and never looked back? Perhaps. Do you think if the Cleveland Browns would’ve picked him instead of Spergon Wynn that they would be the dynasty of the last decade? Then again, maybe he would’ve came in to relieve Tim Couch after yet another horrible performance… and subsequently broke his leg or blew out his ACL in practice or something, gets cut & goes on to sell insurance. You just never know what’s going to happen… but you prepare for the worst and be your best, never stopping, always growing. Go ahead & take a few minutes to look at your own situation. What can you be doing right now that would be better for your life than reading this sentence on my blog? The answer: Absolutely nothing. However, I highly recommend that while you’re waiting for my next post that you get up, get out & get something. You have my support!

Next up… well, funny story. A few weeks ago, I caught a special on TV about “The Real Rocky” or rather the real life boxer nicknamed “The Bayonne Bleeder” that was the inspiration for the character Rocky Balboa. My roommate Pixie & one of her friends watched a few minutes of it with me before heading out for the evening. Then with the holidays, we haven’t seen much of each other. Well, last night… I watched a documentary that I DVR’d about the making of the Rocky movies… all six of them. So about half way through it… Pixie comes home and sees me watching a Rocky documentary, so she jokingly said, “I kinda feel you’re always watching this Rocky documentary… and have been for weeks.” Sigh… yes, I may have a problem… but if it were Batman or something more artsy, she’d be right there with me. Anyway, yeah… it was a pretty good little documentary. Did you know that Dolph Lundgren was a Swedish model turned martial arts master turned MIT graduate in Chemical Engineering turned actor? How about that Mr. T was valedictorian of his high school class? Or that Adrian wasn’t cast until about a week before filming started… and Carrie Snodgress was going to play her until her agent wanted more money that they didn’t have? Well, now you know. Also, Rocky is really an inspirational tale along the lines of Tom Brady earlier in this rant… but yeah, you already knew that.

Modern Art: Still Don’t Get It – I am not a professional artist. My artistic skills are lacking with the exception of occasional wordsmithing. Ask me to draw a picture, you’ll probably be disappointed. “Why is my portrait just a stick figure with boobs & squiggly hair?” “It’s an ugh… expressionist piece? That’s a thing, right?” Most of the time when I’m in an art museum, I can respect various mediums… and then others just confound me. Then again, I wouldn’t have imagined doing some of this crazy sh*t. In good old Denver, a 36-year-old woman was accused of causing $10,000 worth of damage to a painting by the late abstract expressionist artist Clyfford Still, a work valued at more than $30 million, authorities said on Wednesday. A police report said Carmen Tisch punched and scratched the painting, an oil-on-canvas called "1957-J no.2", at the recently opened Clyfford Still museum in Denver and pulled her pants down to slide her buttocks against it. By the way, this is in the statement, I’m sure. Tisch was charged with felony criminal mischief on Wednesday and has been held on a $20,000 bond since the incident in late December, said Lynn Kimbrough, spokeswoman for the Denver District Attorney's Office. Kimbrough said Tisch also urinated after she rubbed up against the canvas, but whether urine got on the painting was still under investigation (really?). Born in North Dakota in 1904, Still was considered one of the most influential of the American post-World War Two abstract expressionist artists, although he was not as well known as others such as Jackson Pollock. Still died in 1980, and the city of Denver worked for years with his widow, Patricia, to secure the single-artist museum. She died in 2005, and her husband's collection was bequeathed to the city. Four of Still's works were auctioned by Sotheby's last year for $114 million to endow the Denver museum, which opened with much fanfare in November. Because Still closely guarded his works, most of the pieces at his namesake museum had not previously been displayed. Tisch will be formally advised of the charges on Friday, Kimbrough said. So… okay a few things. First, $30 million for a painting? The one pictured above? Really? Not only that… but there are several in that price range from this guy? F**k me, I’m in the wrong career. Sad thing though… is that you have to die to collect. Good for your offspring though, I guess. Secondly, and this is where I further call into question the $30 million value, is that she did $10,000 worth of damage? Okay, reality check. If I take my Scarface poster… and punch it, scratch it a bit, then wipe my ass upon it… and probably being a little in the process (natural response) to what percentage would you think I ruined that poster? My guess is that I couldn’t give that sh*t away to a blind man. “What’s the smell?” However, we’re talking about $10,000 being 0.03% of the $30 million “value” on the painting. I’m not sure how this girl swings, scratches or scats… but I know my poster would be south of 99.97% of mint condition. I get it though. Art is a subjective market. Let them pay their huge price tags for one-of-a-kind oil paintings.

Identity Theft: Make It Somebody You Want to Be - A Dallas teen missing for more than a year has been found living in Colombia. Lorene Turner tells WFAA that her granddaughter Jakadrien Turner ran away from home in the fall of 2010 when she was just 14. Typical tragic story of a teenage runaway, right? Wait for the twist. Jakadrien made her way to Houston, where she was arrested by police. That's when things took a turn toward the Kafka-esque. Jakadrien gave the police a false name… and of all the luck, her new alias just happened to match up with the name of a 22-year-old Colombian citizen who had been in the United States illegally. That’s not all… to compound Turner's plight further, the Colombian national had a warrant out for her arrest. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) then deported Jakadrien in April 2011. "They didn't do their work," Lorene Turner said. "How do you deport a teenager and send her to Colombia without a passport, without anything?" Also, side note… she must be a fairly mature looking 14 year old too. Turner said she'd been looking on her computer every night for clues to her granddaughter's location, and has been cooperating with Dallas police as she carries out her search. It turns out that after Jakadrien was deported, she was given a work card in Colombia and released onto the streets. "She talked about how they had her working in this big house cleaning all day, and how tired she was," Turner said. Jakadrien is now being held in a Colombia detention facility while awaiting more information on her case. "ICE takes these allegations very seriously," said ICE Director of Public Affairs Brian Hale. " At the direction of [the Department of Homeland Security], ICE is fully and immediately investigating this matter in order to expeditiously determine the facts of this case." Yeah, I’ll bet. That’s a pretty major f**kup… but hey, that’s what a bratty ass teenager gets for being a smartass in my book. “What’s your name, miss?” “Haywood!” “Interesting name for a girl. What’s your last name?” “Jablomy!” “Let me just run this in the computer and… JACKPOT!!! Here comes my accommandations…” I really am curious what name she gave though? Jennifer Lopez? Shakira Valenzuela? Who knows?

Anyway, that’ll do it for today. Been a very busy week at work… but hey, busy means good money, right? That’s the rumor. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on any big happenings… but pretty laid back once I get home to recuperate from the workday. Wish I had more interesting stories… but hey, you don’t wanna hear about all the crazy sh*t that I think about. I just don’t have time to type it all up either. Have a great night everybody!!!

Observing Birds of Prey

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

The past few days have been fairly busy. The weekend was watching a lot of football though… and I’m sad to report that the Philadelphia Eagles will NOT have a perfect season this year. I know… I know… but it really wasn’t a thought to begin with… just would’ve been nice to f**k with the Dolphins & Patriots, you know? Anyway… watching the game Sunday night against the Falcons, I realized a few other things about the team, football, etc. that I would like to share with you…

  • The perfect season idea is over (but it really wasn’t there to begin with)

  • Michael Vick is still human

  • The only man that could stop him though… was another Eagle

  • Vince Young is hurt? F**k!!!

  • Mike Kafka hadn’t thrown a pass since he apparently threw 78 of them in his last collegiate game three years ago

  • LeSean McCoy is a lot like Barry Sanders when he’s healthy

  • DeSean Jackson is probably mad that he’s not getting paid more but…

  • Jeremy Maclin is the one with over 170 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns… and surprisingly no headaches

  • On defense, the ultimate secondary basically picked off every pass that came their way

  • However, because the linebackers were guarding Tony Gonzalez, he had a few touchdown catches

  • There is only ONE Tony Gonzalez… and he’s pretty f**king amazing

  • There is a weakness in the new nine-wide defense… just run at it

  • Trent Cole is a “BEAST”!!!

  • So… both our kicker… and our punter… are six-foot Caucasian rookies with the last name Henry who look alike in uniform. If I ask if they’re brothers, does that make me racist?

  • Best thing though… after our $100 million quarterback going down & going straight to a cold 3rd stringer who hasn’t thrown a game pass in years, more cheap shots from Dunta Robinson on our receivers, and a brilliant performance by the team that finished with the best record in the NFC last year… they only lost by four points in the Georgia Dome & it went down to a Hail Mary in the closing seconds. I’m optimistic.

  • There’s a reason that we were able to sign former All-Pro running back Ronnie Brown at wholesale

  • Sidenote: Why haven’t they just given Ronnie Brown robotic knees? We have the technology

  • Secondary sidenote: I totally envision that as Ronnie Brown looking & sounding like RoboCop in fast forward

  • Third sidenote: If the NFL allowed robotic appendages, I guarantee that the following week… Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis would look like the evil robot in RoboCop 2. He is THAT dedicated to football… it’s his drug… and he could totally pull it off

  • Borderline rant: I’m really liking the idea of cyborgs playing football now. I’ll write a letter to Commissioner Roger Goodell. Does anybody else remember the video game “Mutant Football League”? I would totally watch teams comprised of cyborgs, full-on robots, mutants, ninjas, armored warriors, and yes… barbaric weapons could be used, I guess. Why not? A few areas of the playing field could be booby trapped as well.

  • I may need some psychiatric help

Anyway, just some observations. Monday night was softball… and we won again… and I played a little… and we had a few drinks afterwards. Good times. I really like the coworkers / teammates on the team, we have a lot of fun & we play hard too. Great bunch of guys & gals. Other than that, not a whole lot going on… just busy getting ready for road trip to see Filly in Malibu this weekend. So here’s some other news…

Expendables 2 Updates – Okay, so these updates are all rumors gathered over the past few weeks where I haven’t really been keeping you entertained… my apologies… but hey, this isn’t paying the bills. For one, producer Avi Lerner has offered the legendary Donnie Yen a 'tailor-made' role in the upcoming "The Expendables" sequel reports Twitchfilm. A spokesperson from Yen's company confirmed the offer but the actor will not decide until he sees if the script appeals to him or not. One key factor may also be that Nu Image is in talks to partner with a Chinese distributor for the upcoming "The Expendables" sequel and will likely shoot some scenes in that country reports The L.A. Times. The deal is expected to generate about $8 million from the local company with which it works. More importantly it guarantees the film a release in China without having to worry about navigating the strictly regulated system imposed on foreign films. The Chinese government allows approximately twenty "revenue-sharing slots" per year for imported pictures. The first film missed out on that, so it had to sell rights to a local distributor for a flat fee said to be under $1 million. The film went onto gross an impressive $32.1 million in the Chinese market alone. There's a catch, to ensure the film can shoot scenes in China it has to be approved by government censors and thus "can’t be detrimental to China" according to Nu Image’s CFO Trevor Short. Nu Image tried to score such a deal for its recent "Conan the Barbarian" reboot without success. Movie business pimpin’…

Anyway, Yen joins the likes of John Travolta, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme who have also been rumored as potential stars in the follow-up. Even that f**king werewolf from “Twilight” (Taylor Lautner) has been rumored. In more confirmed news though, shooting is currently slated to kick off in October… but it’s not about who might be in the movie… it’s about who WILL be in it… and at last update, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis have reportedly just closed deals to take “substantial” roles in Simon West's "The Expendables 2" for Millennium Films and Lionsgate reports Deadline. Schwarzenegger and Willis made cameos in the first film, it's expected they'll reprise their characters for this outing along with returning cast members Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews and Jet Li. That’s right… Arnie will be making his theatrical return, after a pretty hilarious political career writhe with scandal, and it will be in this movie. Awesome! Also, some Aussie kid named Liam Hemsworth ("The Hunger Games," "The Last Song") has joined the cast of "The Expendables 2" for Lionsgate says The Sydney Morning Herald. 21-year-old Hemsworth, brother of "Thor" star Chris, will be the youngest cast member in the sequel. He will portray a sniper… and if I’m a betting man, I don’t think he makes it through the entire movie. Just saying… there’s a lot of star power here. Maybe they can get Danny Trejo & Rutger Hauer to cameo as Machete & Hobo with a Shotgun too. I’m just trying to think of people they might have missed to be in this movie. Oh wait, I think I found the scheduling conflict…

Hatfields & McCoys - Tom Berenger (“Sniper” & “The Substitute”), Powers Boothe (“Tombstone” & “Sin City”) and Mare Winningham (?) have all joined "The Hatfields and McCoys" miniseries for The History Channel reports The Live Feed. The project follows the former friends and Civil War comrades (Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton) who return home after the war to properties on opposite sides of the Tug River border in Kentucky and West Virginia to increasing tensions that bring the neighboring states to the brink of another war. Berenger will play Costner's warlord uncle, Boothe is Costner's level-headed older brother, while Winningham will play Paxton's beleaguered wife who loses her children and her mind to the feud. Kevin Reynolds ("Red Dawn") has signed on to direct the miniseries which will air next year. So that basically accounts for everybody except… Mel Gibson? Oooh, Kurt Russell. What’s he up to? Anyway, that sounds pretty damn good for a miniseries on the History Channel.

Anyway, all this talk about manly men stuff makes me want to go work out… so I think I’ll go do that… and then probably the next time that you hear from me will be after my road trip to Malibu to see Filly… so hopefully I’ll have some good stories to share by then. Have a great weekend everybody!!! GO EAGLES!!!

This Time, It's Personal

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

My mom will be coming to visit me in a few weeks!!! She will also be bringing my Aunt Pat… so there’s the catch… but I’m still super excited about her coming to visit and see how her boy is living. No idea what we’re going to do while she’s here… but I’m sure it’ll be amazing. Maybe we’ll even do a trip to Wine Country or I’d even be okay with her shopping a bit… but luckily she’s not into that much. YAY!!! She’s finally coming to visit!!! Now I just have to figure out when / if I’m going to visit Utah. Anyway, here’s the news…

Stupid Baby Name Update – For a few years now, I’ve strived to put the word out on stupid baby names… for a multitude of reasons. First being that I myself have come up with some REALLY stupid baby names… but only because I’m never going to be able to name my own offspring. Hell, I’ll be lucky to have a say in the matter. Second reason being that it just amazes me sometimes what goes through parents’ minds when they start their legacy in this manner. Today’s example takes us to the Middle East, where inspired by Facebook, a couple in central Israel have named their baby daughter "Like." And no, she’s not… like… a valley girl either. "It's short and sweet," Vardit Adler, Like's mother, told Reuters Tuesday. "It's very important to me and to my husband that the names we give our children are unique, creative and totally new," she said. Six-day-old Like has two older sisters, 10-year-old Dvash, Hebrew for honey, and five-year-old Pie, "as in apple pie," Adler said. DAMN!!! I was going to guess the constant integer of the circumference of a circle divided by the diameter of the same circle. So close! Then again, that would’ve been Pi… or a really cool symbol… like the artist formerly known as Prince… or the lead singer of ? & the Mysterians. Oh yeah, back to the Adlers. "I'm not worried about other children teasing Like. Dvash and Pie don't seem to mind their special names and nobody teases them," Adler said. Surprised by media attention her newborn daughter was getting in Israel, Adler noted that Like has already received hundreds of comments on her own Facebook page. Six days old… and she has a Facebook page. Well, I’ve come up with a pretty good name for my future daughter now… Dismiss.

Future German Careers – Speaking of children, how many of you have children going to college? Well, this next story probably won’t surprise you then… unless you’re completely naïve. A study from the Berlin Studies Center says that one in three university students in the German capital would consider sex work as a means to finance their education. The figure in Berlin, where prostitution is legal (WHAAAT???), was higher than students surveyed in Paris (29.2%) and in Kiev (18.5%), the three cities the report looked at. The study found some 4% of the 3,200 Berlin students surveyed (so about 130 total) said they had already done some form of sex work, which includes prostitution, erotic dancing and Internet shows. Yup. Those are just the ones that admitted to it too. The number of men who said they would consider sex work was about equal to the number of woman, the study found. The results surprised the study's authors, who said they undertook the study because student prostitution had been often reported but little was known about its relationship to education policy. "The main motivation of students to turn to prostitution were the financial incentives, namely the high hourly wages," Eva Blumenschein, one of the study's authors and a 26-year-old student at Berlin's Humboldt University, told Reuters. Blumenschein said recent educational reforms aimed at speeding up students' time at university may play a role in them seeking out sex work. "It's possible that because educational reforms have increased student workloads, they have less time to earn money," she said. "Coupled with higher student fees, in this instance, leads students into prostitution." Thirty percent of students working in the sex industry were in debt, the study found (which means 70% were NOT in debt, so what’s the point of that statement?). That is compared with 18% of students who said they would consider sex work who were in debt. Honestly, I’m surprised too. I expected the number to be WAY higher. Only a third? Really? I’m so used to getting f**ked by university bills that it’s only natural to move into the industry to pay those bills. Or as I prefer to call it, “Skees for degrees” patent pending. Besides, what about all those strippers who told me that they were only doing it to pay for their nursing degree? Do you mean to tell me that they were LYING? To ME? But they love me! They told me so. Ooh… now I get it.

Seven Psychopaths - "In Bruges" writer/director Martin McDonagh and star Colin Farrell are set to re-team for the black comedy "Seven Psychopaths" for Film4, Blueprint, HanWay and Annapurna reports Variety. Farrell will play a struggling screenwriter looking for inspiration who is drawn into the dog kidnapping schemes of his friends (Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken). Things turn deadly when a gangster's (Mickey Rourke) dog goes missing. Like 'Bruges', McDonagh will both pen the script and direct. Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin and Meghan Ellison will produce. Call me crazy (or the 5th psychopath listed), but I think this movie could be really good. All we need is John Malkovich to sign on… and maybe Willem Dafoe… and I think we’ll have just about all of the psychopaths on one movie. Christopher Walken? I’m laughing already… in a black comedy kind of way. You’ve got Mickey Rourke… basically playing himself… and will probably be using his own dog (remember “Once Upon a Time in Mexico”? That’s his Chihuahua). It could be pretty good. Keep an eye out.

Expendables 2 Update – Now, Sylvester Stallone has already come out & denied this internet rumor… saying that it’s fake… and a real one is forthcoming soon… but I don’t care. I’m going to share it with you anyway… because that’s what the internet is for… the spreading of rumors, pornography & b**ching about movies with the entire world. So without further ado… though it's still a some time off considering the casting and director have yet to be locked down, a piece of sales artwork for the sequel to Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables" has gone online along with the first synopsis via Nu Image (or so you think). The film itself is scheduled to hit cinemas on August 17th 2012: "The Expendables are back… and this time it’s personal! After Tool (Mickey Rourke), the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They’re not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney and the Expendables must risk everything to save her… and humanity." See? Totally sounds like it could work, right? Yeah, too bad it’s not… but I’m sure that Sly is already looking who will play Fiona in his redraft. My guess… Olivia Wilde… if he can sign her. You’re welcome, Sly. No need to thank me, just pay it forward… by finding a good part for me in the sequel. I could probably pass for Dolph Lundgren’s son (or grandson). Think about it…

Panda Update - Just one month before “Kung Fu Panda 2,” the sequel to the blockbuster animated hit from 2008, comes to China, a 5-year-old panda practiced his kung fu in a zoo in China’s central province of Hubei and killed his neighbor… a blue peacock. On the morning of May 2nd, Chen Jun, the zookeeper at Wuhan Zoo in Hubei, was cleaning the interior of the panda’s house when he heard piercing squeaks outside. Hope, a male panda, was dragging a peacock in his mouth, running fast in circles. When the poor blue peacock tried to escape Hope’s paws, the bear caught the bird again, bit off her tail and dragged her around inside the enclosure. Finally the panda decided to take a break, placed the peacock on his wooden play rack, and watched her die – just like cats play with their prey. Oh yes! I’ve been saying it for years. Pandas are bears… or at least really big raccoons… but they have claws & teeth and are wild creatures (allegedly). It’s about time they at least ripped apart a cocky poultry bastard just to watch it die. The Wuhan Zoo keeps the peacock enclosure next door to the panda house, with a ten-foot tall fence between the two. For the past three years, peacocks have been flying over the fence to their cuddly neighbors’ territory to hunt for worms and seeds. The zookeepers said sometimes the pandas would get excited and chase the birds for a little bit, but they had never seen one act like Hope or kill any birds… until now. CCTV footage later revealed just how energetic Hope was on that morning, chasing the peacock for quite a long time. The zookeeper also explained in an interview with China’s Central Television that a 5-year-old male panda is like a 20-year-old boy: at the peak of his powers, full of energy. Dear God! Keep your peacocks away from college campuses! Lord knows what could happen with these violent energetic urges, feathers that tickle like no other & an urge to use sex to pay their bills (or at least take their mind off them). Anyway, today’s public service announcements: Pandas – They’re f**king bears!!!

Pompeii Update – Well, I’m going to leave you with a story that takes me back to the days when I had personal goals & dreams. Oh yes, ladies & gentlemen, I’m talking about all the way into the last millennium… the 90’s. Do you remember the 90’s? It gave us great things like… slap bracelets? Grunge music & flannel? AIDS? Okay, we’ll just forget about the timeframe for a moment… but I’m gonna take you to 1999. My buddy Ryan & I are in AP English Literature class because… well, the girls were really cute & the teacher was really old so couldn’t hear us making smart ass remarks to one another while reading Shakespeare. Alas, one topic that we talked about a lot was making a movie about the events of Pompeii in 79 AD. It was a topic that we were both interested in… as we were both going to visit Pompeii a few months later on separate trips. We had great ideas. Basically it was going to be Gladiator before Gladiator was Gladiator… plus Volcano… but better… and yes, I realize that I’m saying better about a movie that won an Academy Award for Best Picture a few years later, thus my window was pretty much closed. Anyway, those were good days.

Nowadays, the team behind the upcoming "The Three Musketeers 3D" are re-assembling for a big-budget period movie about the destruction of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii says The Hollywood Reporter. Constantin Film is financing and producing, Summit will release the film States-side, and Paul W.S. Anderson (“Resident Evil”, “Death Race”, “Alien vs Predator” & Milla’s baby daddy) is set to direct the project set in late summer 79 AD. The story revolves around the slave of a shipping tycoon who dreams of the day he can buy his freedom and marry his master's daughter. The problem is she is promised to a corrupt Roman senator, while he's been sold to another owner. Then Mt. Vesuvius erupts with the slave trapped on a ship headed for Naples and he is determined to get back and rescue them despite the fire and ash engulfing the city. Anderson will shoot the project in Spring 2012 from a script by Lee Batchler and Janet Scott Batchler. Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer will produce. So basically… Paul W S Anderson… is living my f**king life for me. Making millions of dollar making movies about video games that I enjoy while making sweet babymakin’ love to Milla Jovovich. I can’t really hate on him… but dammit. Well played sir. Apparently those middle initials stand for Wishing Steve. Well, I guess I’ll just have to wait for YOUR version of the movie to come out. Sad thing is… it’s REALLY similar to my version… except mine was a gladiator instead of a slave of a shipping tycoon, but I understand the change. Don’t want to seem like a copycat… but if I see my buddy Ryan on the producer credits… somebody’s going to get a talking to.

Anyway, that’ll do it for tonight. No real plans for this weekend, but I may be meeting up with Carmen or just enjoying the sunshine. Still REALLY excited about my mom coming to visit in a few weeks… but until then, just gotta make sure that I’m doing fun stuff for me. No more sitting at home & lazing away. Have a great weekend everybody!!!

Doctor Expendable

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

The weekend was pretty good. Beautiful weather, clear blue skies, and a Brew Jazz Funk festival in Squaw Valley to go check out. See, it was Jazz instead of Blues, which is even better for enjoying the truly schpedoinkal day. Another added bonus, it was an event to raise money for the local animal shelters & human society… so everybody wins… and every time that I was buying a beer, I could say with a straight face, “This is for my dawgs!!!” The music was great too. Anyway, here are some pictures…
Site of the 1960 Winter Olympics... then again...
This guy swept the skiing medals back then...
Washboard & wah wah guitars make me happy

After the sun started going down, I decided that I was going to see a movie in theatres, which I don’t do much, especially by myself (mostly because it’s a little lame). So what movie did I go see? Of course I went to see “The Expendables” starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Steve Austin, the Governator, Bruce Willis, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, and a basically every action star from the past 30 years (except Steven Seagal because he was shooting “Machete” while being a Louisiana sheriff & Jean Claude Van Damme because… well, I’m not sure why). I’ve been keeping you updated on this movie for YEARS now… so I had to see it through, despite bad reviews. Seriously, if you’re expecting this to win Best Picture like Stallone’s first flick Rocky, you WILL be sorely disappointed. However, if you wanted to see a bunch of sh*t get blown, asses whipped, one-liners, gats & tats, motorcycles, waterboarding, REALLY cheesy dialogue, even cheesier monologue (sorry Mickey) and satisfying your once-a-decade Dolph Lundgren fix… then this is the movie for you. Oh yeah, the story. Almost forgot. Mercenaries, big time job, dictator on island in South America, CIA turncoat, hot daughter of dictator revolutionary, you know the drill. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed it… and that’s because I know what to expect… and it delivered. I thoroughly recommend it if this is your kind of movie. If not, you weren’t going to see it anyway. Enjoy “Eat, Pray, Love” and those angsty vampire flicks. The important thing is… Expendables got the number one spot on the weekend box office… which means…

Expendables SEQUEL? - With "Salt" currently sitting on a little over $100 million domestic and with the international rollout kicking off shortly on the Angelina Jolie spy thriller, talk has inevitably turned toward a possible sequel considering the ending leaves things wide open (spoiler alert?). In fact according to The Los Angeles Times, everything is ready to go if the film is greenlit. The film's scribe Kurt Wimmer has ideas for how to advance the story, director Phil Noyce is said to be interested in returning, and star Angelina Jolie has previously said that she's keen to work on a sequel and in fact has a relatively free schedule coming up as Tim Burton's "Maleficent" and the Kay Scarpetta films are still some way off. The question now is simply one of money. Costing $110 million to produce, the film's domestic performance simply isn't good enough on its own. As a result the studio is waiting on how the film performs in key international territories where star-driven escapist spy films tend to fare better at the box-office. Meanwhile with "The Expendables" opening to a strong $35 million over the weekend, sequel buzz has already begun and Sylvester Stallone tells The Hollywood Reporter that he's already 'plotted out' the follow-up film's direction - "I believe this group has to continue to evolve; it just can't become the same people. So how do you get new people introduced into the group, and how do you have some of the other people leaving? Those are the challenges." Ugh… I can help you with that Sly. Is Carl Weathers still alive? He’s in the sequel… and Michael Jai White, cuz I dig that cat. As for your complex plot schemes for a smooth transition of characters… allow me to help. How do you have some people leaving? Retiring? No, that’s too easy. How about explosions or some kind of other violent death? Perhaps betrayal from within the group. Then you’re not sure who your friends are. Interesting subplot. How do you introduce new characters? “Hi, my name’s Black Dynamite (or Mike Hawk or Bull Dozer or whatever stupid name you want in there… seriously, Hale Caesar?)” Done. You’re welcome. Let me know when the sequel comes out. And see if you can get Antonio Banderas as a bad guy in this one. And Michael Biehn needs a job.

A movie I saw yesterday on TV was… wait for it… “Undead or Alive: A Zombedy” starring Chris Kattan (“Corky Romano”) and James Denton (“Desperate Housewives”). Long story short, a cowboy (Kattan), an army deserter (Denton) and a hot Indian girl meet up while a city is being overrun with brain-craving zombies thanks to a curse by Geronimo. That’s really it. I wish I could tell you more about it but… that’s really it. It has a few funny moments because it’s basically a mockery of zombie flicks… and come on, the star is Chris Kattan. Anyway, check it out if you want… but even as zombie flicks go, it’s kinda dumb, but briefly funny. Just thought I’d let you know how I spent my Sunday afternoon flipping through the channels after shooting some hoops.

X-Men Update - Australian actress Rose Byrne ("Damages") is in negotiations to play Moira MacTaggert in Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men First Class" for 20th Century Fox says The Hollywood Reporter. In the comics MacTaggert is a scientist and an authority on genetic mutation who also serves as the love interest of Charles Xavier (James McAvoy). Meanwhile Jason Flemyng ("Clash of the Titans," "Kick Ass") has apparently been cast as the teleporting mutant Azazel in the project reports Coming Soon. The character was the lead of an ancient race of mutants who looked like demons and could teleport into other dimensions. He was also the father of Nightcrawler. The pair join the likes of confirmed cast members Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Alice Eve. Filming on the project kicks off in London at the end of this month. Yeah, just another update. You know how I do.

So yeah, that’ll probably be it for today. Happy birthday to Boorappa!!! The Wingman will be coming back from Alaska soon & I think Mrs Wingman will guilt trip him into a trip out here soon enough. Bubbles moved her stuff safely to San Francisco over the weekend (thanks to my directions & assurance that if she drove through the desert long enough eventually she’d see signs for San Fran). Can’t wait to visit Utah in a few weeks and see my family, especially the niece & nephew who say good night to me just about every day they’re up at grandma’s now. Those kids are f**king cute. Period. Anyway, you already knew that. Have a great night everybody!!!

Release the Drain Snakes

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen,

The past few days have been pretty uneventful. Work during the day, catching up on posts at night. Don’t remember if I told you…but I’ve been doing the eHarmony thing the past few months. I know I haven’t mentioned it a lot because…well, it’s kind of a rip-off. However, that being said, this Saturday I have a little get-together with one of the ladies. The only thing is…she lives almost two hours away, so I don’t really see it going too far…but I figured it’d be great to at least meet her, have dinner in Reno, a few laughs, see where it goes from there. What’s that? Oh you want to know a little about her? Well, she’s 23, mother of a 4-year old, likes football & basketball (though she did say that she’s a Cowboys fan…which almost made me “Close Match” immediately), likes similar kinds of movies & music, and based on our conversations…is very funny, witty & seems to have a great perspective on life. I’m sure being the single mother of a four-year old will do that to you. I’m excited to meet her…but again, not sure what kind of future it has. You know me though. I’m optimistic. Wish me luck.

This past week, I watched a few movies too. The first one was “The Box” starring Frank Langella, James Marsden & Cameron Diaz. This is a story written & directed by Richard Kelly (“Donnie Darko” & “Southland Tales”) about a young couple in Virginia (Marsden & Diaz…with a horrible southern accent) who are approached by a NASA employee named Arlington Steward (Langella) who was horribly disfigured (think Two Face on “The Dark Knight”) and presents them with a box…and a proposition. Press this button and two things will happen. You will be presented with a suitcase filled with one million American dollars…and somebody you don’t know will die. If you don’t press the button, I’ll go on to the next person. So after much deliberation (and because they don’t want this movie to only last 20 minutes), the wife presses the button. Steward shows up with the million dollars…and as he walks away, they have a change of heart. Now for the most intriguing part (yes, even more intriguing than the original scenario), all offers are final…and now, he’s going to make a similar offer…to somebody that they don’t know. Aaaaaah snap! Then, in typical Richard Kelly fashion, it gets f**king crazy. It was a little better than I was expecting. You may wanna give it a shot if you’re into to those psychological mirror-on-society kind of movies. It definitely fills the bill. Just be prepared for the occasional “What the f**k?” every now and then.

The next movie was the most recent from director John Woo (“Broken Arrow”, “Face/Off” & “Mission: Impossible 2”) which was titled “Red Cliff” and is about the famous battle in 3rd century China. Basically, there is the emperor and a power-hungry leader of his army on one side…and two other kingdoms who were enemies, now must join forces…or face being conquered. Now, I know what you’re probably thinking. China, epic battle flick, lots of subtitles or bad dubbing, and it’s a John Woo movie so there’s probably a lot of doves flying around and slow motion shots. Pass. I’m telling you, if you like martial arts movies, epic battle movies like Braveheart, or anything like that…then this is a great movie. More so, there’s even a little love story worked in, there’s a lot of great and realistic strategy involved, and it’s not cheesy. It’s actually very well done…and I give John Woo all the credit in the world. I suggest that everybody check it out…and don’t worry, the dubbing is actually pretty good.

Also arriving through Netflix, was the movie that put John Woo on the Hollywood map over twenty years ago, “The Killer” starring Chow Yun-Fat. This is widely regarded as one of the greatest shoot-em-up movies of all time…but because it had never made it to DVD until recently, I had never seen it (except for the occasional clip of the final shoot out in the church referred to in every other Woo film). The story revolves around a Hong Kong assassin (Chow) who accidentally blinds a female lounge singer while trying to save her during a hit. Six months later, he starts up a relationship with her, being a hitman with a heart of gold. Well, he also has his day job…and during one big final hit, he’s betrayed by the organization…and has to shoot his way out. There’s a lot of double-crosses, new alliances, old friendships, but most of all… There’s a LOT of guns!!! This truly is one of the greatest shoot-em-ups of all time. I highly recommend it to anybody who likes those…and it’s actually pretty clever & heartfelt at the same time. Very difficult to pull off when bullets are flying everywhere. Again, kudos to John Woo. Now I’m gonna have to watch “Face/Off” again…and not just for some of the greatest one-liners in cinema history like “I can eat a peach for hours”, “I hate to see you go, but I love to watch you leave” & “If I were to let you suck my tongue, would you be grateful?” I am Castor Troy. Now for some other news…

Alabama Education - A Jefferson County geometry teacher was placed on paid administrative leave Tuesday after being accused of using a hypothetical assassination plot on President Barack Obama as a way to teach geometric angles. Yes, paid administrative leave. School Superintendent Phil Hammonds said Corner High School teacher Gregory Harrison could face possible termination (of employment? Or is there some kind of story problem for this one too?). Hammonds earlier said the teacher remained at work and there were no plans to fire him. But in announcing that the teacher was being placed on leave, the superintendent said his office had been flooded with calls from people around the nation, mainly upset that further action hadn't been taken against the teacher. Roy Sexton, special agent in charge of Birmingham's Secret Service office, said his agency spoke with the teacher after being told about his comment, but no charges were filed and the investigation was closed. "We did not find a credible threat," Sexton said. Hammonds said he will talk to teachers and students before recommending to the school board what action, if any, might be appropriate. It was not immediately known how long the teacher may be on leave. Hammonds said the school system in Alabama's most populous county was embarrassed by what Harrison said. "There is nothing that can be said to rationalize what he said. We take this very seriously. There is no place in our society for a person to make these comments," Hammonds said. Attempts to reach Harrison for comment were not immediately successful. Calls to Hammonds were referred to the school system's attorney, Burgin Kent, who did not immediately return a call for comment. Joseph Brown, a senior in the geometry class, told The Birmingham News that the teacher "was talking about angles and said, 'If you're in this building, you would need to take this angle to shoot the president.'" Wow! Really? I’m all for saying random stuff to make sure that the kids are paying attention but…really? I mean…if I had to guess a place where something like this would happen, it’d be Jefferson County, Alabama…but still, you’d think…really? Sigh… I’m sure they’ll figure it out. I’m done thinking about it. I’ve got other stupid things to focus on…

Stupid Movie? – So, have you ever read the synopsis of a movie and thought “This could be the worst movie ever made”? Well, I just had the thought on this one. Isla Fisher (“Wedding Crashers” & “Confessions of a Shopaholic”) is being lined up to star in and Wayne McClammy is in negotiations to direct the comedy "Desperados" for Universal Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter. Ellen Rapoport penned the script about a woman who gets very upset when her new boyfriend doesn't get back in touch with her after they have sex. After sending an indignant email to him, she soon learns the truth - he's comatose in a Mexican hospital (spring break?). In a panic she and her friends race to Mexico in an effort to intercept the email before he recovers. So…yeah, that’s the plot of this masterpiece. Oh…and you may be asking yourself, “Wayne McClammy? That’s a very distinctive name. Where do I know that from?” Well, McClammy is most famous for directing the viral videos "I'm F**king Matt Damon" and "I'm F**king Ben Affleck." Filming kicks off at the end of the year…and I’m predicting three Razzies…but then again, it may not even be noticed by the academy.

Stealing Harvard – On paper, Adam Wheeler had undeniably strong credentials to get into Harvard: a perfect SAT score, straight A's at a prestigious prep school and glowing recommendations from four professors at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. While at Harvard, Wheeler seemed a shoo-in for a Rhodes or Fulbright scholarship. His applications included his Harvard transcript, which also featured all A's, as well as a list of books he had co-written, courses he had taught and lectures he had given…but authorities say it was all a big con. In fact, Wheeler had never attended the exclusive Phillips Academy prep school in Andover or MIT. And his academic record at Harvard was far less dazzling than he claimed. Instead of straight A's, Wheeler had received some A's, a few B's and a D. His SAT scores were also much less impressive: 1160 and 1220, not the perfect 1600 he had claimed, according to court documents. Wheeler, 23, of Milton, Delaware, was ordered held on $5,000 bail Tuesday after pleading not guilty to 20 counts of larceny, identity fraud and other charges. If he posts bail, he must stay away from Harvard and the other academic institutions involved in his alleged scheme, surrender his passport and remain in Massachusetts, a Middlesex Superior Court judge said. Wheeler was tossed from Harvard last fall after he tried to get the school's endorsement for Rhodes and Fulbright scholarships, and a professor reviewing his applications found evidence he had plagiarized from another professor, prosecutors say. Wheeler's parents gave him up to a Yale official who called to ask about their son's transfer application. (“Look mom & dad, if you don’t want to pay for an Ivy League school, this is how I have to do it”) Prosecutor John Verner (not to be confused with Dean Verner) said in court Tuesday that Wheeler essentially stole $45,000 in financial aid, scholarship money and academic awards from Harvard. "This defendant's actions cheated those who competed honestly and fairly for admissions and for the scholarships that this defendant fraudulently obtained," said Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone. Wheeler, an English major (Really? That should’ve been your first clue that he wasn’t too bright) who would have graduated from Harvard this spring, tried to transfer to Yale or Brown after he got caught at Harvard, Leone said, again by falsifying his achievements and recommendations. In his applications, Wheeler said he was employed by McLean Hospital, a psychiatric facility affiliated with Harvard, even though he was not. His transfer application included faked recommendations from an employee at the hospital and from his former Harvard dean, Leone said. A Yale official called the Wheeler home to ask about his application, and a parent told the official that the application wasn't truthful and their son had been thrown out of Harvard. Wheeler's parents refused to comment outside of court Tuesday. His lawyer, Steven Sussman, said his client "will have his day in court and that day is not today." Sussman said Wheeler has no prior criminal record. He would not discuss the charges against Wheeler. Harvard said in a statement it could not discuss individual cases because of federal privacy laws and referred all questions to the district attorney's office. Prosecutors said Wheeler actually graduated from Caesar Rodney High School, a public school in Kent County, Delaware, in 2005. He attended Bowdoin College in Maine from 2005-07, but was suspended for academic dishonesty, according to court records. In court documents, prosecutors said that at the time Wheeler was told he would be suspended from Bowdoin, he was completing his application to transfer to Harvard. But authorities say that instead of applying as a suspended sophomore from Bowdoin, he said he was a straight-A student with a 1600 SAT. Hey, I really don’t care. College is a f**king rip-off anyway. There, I said it. I’ve said it repeatedly. He’ll go to jail. Harvard will get their money from another source. What’s done is done. Don’t get me wrong, an education is incredibly important & everybody should broaden their horizons every day…and I feel a little bad for the one person, whoever that may be, that got gypped out of some scholarship money. I just think that going into horrible financial debt to get an education because you want to get a degree in English to write a book that nobody’s ever going to read (except maybe the prosecuting attorney if it’s a detailed memoir of how you conned an education out of Harvard & Yale) is probably not the best way to do it. And honestly, you can get just as good of an education from a community college as you can from Harvard (unless you’re going to be a doctor or something). I went to university and/or college for seven years. I have two degrees. I’ve also had disposable income for the past three years since I graduated…and have moved several times to find decent employment. I don’t know. Maybe it’s more about work ethic, willingness to grow, and developing synapses of thought that’ll help you for the rest of your life rather than spending many thousands of dollars to cram for a test and you’ll forget that information that you “learned” within a month, possibly because you’re experimenting with stiff drugs and loose women to relieve the “stress” of academia. Like I said, I don’t know. It’s all really a game of chance anyway, right?

Elections Have Come to THIS??? - A deck of cards and a bit of luck helped decide who will likely be the next sheriff of Morrill County, Nebraska. Please, allow me to explain. The nine of hearts Milo Cardenas drew Monday beat Travis Petersen's six of spades, thereby giving Cardenas the Republican nomination for sheriff. Need a little more explanation? Okay. Since no Democrats ran for sheriff, Cardenas, the police chief in Bridgeport, is likely to win in November's election. "I knew it was going to be close, but I didn't expect to be this close," Cardenas said. What? Oh, you don’t know why it came down to a game of one-card draw to decide an election? Oh, well here you go. The two men agreed to cut a deck of cards after Monday's re-count confirmed that both finished at the top of a four-man race with 379 votes after balloting ended last Tuesday. Here’s the kicker: Nebraska state law requires tied elections to be settled by a game of chance. That’s right, ladies & gentlemen. Cardenas said deciding the race with a card game seemed a little crazy (really?) but also seemed like the best option (REALLY?). "I felt more comfortable with the deck of cards. That way you pick your own destiny," Cardenas said. Brandt shuffled the cards seven times and spread them out on a table before the candidates drew cards simultaneously. "People wanted to revote and do a lot of things, but unfortunately, Nebraska law is very clear," Morrill County Clerk Kathy Brandt said. Brandt said none of the candidates who lost in the primary are allowed to run in the general election. "For all those people that didn't vote, they should realize that one vote does make a difference," Brandt said. REALLY? Not even an arm wrestle or a display of archery prowess or a match of Rochambeau? The next sheriff is decided by a card game? You’re Nebraska. At least have them see who can husk the most corn in five minutes or something. Holy crap! I read this article and then immediately pictured Bush & Gore settling their “tie” a decade ago with a card game. “Haha sucker! Read ‘em and weep. Straight flush, b**ch! Now I gets to be President. WOOHOO!!!” You don’t think…is that maybe how it happened? Is a chance game of Texas Hold ‘Em how instead of an educated man with relevant experience in the White House, we elected a retarded Texan? TWICE!!! Sigh… I hope it’s slightly more complicated than that. Sign of the Apocalypse maybe?

Apocalypse Update – Also in Nebraska, if this doesn’t chill you to your very core, I don’t know what will. The Nebraska Humane Society has tracked down the owner of a python found in a toilet of a La Vista hotel room. They said the owner panicked after losing the pet snake while staying at the Hampton Inn in late March and left without alerting management. The python was found a few days later by another guest. The owner has not been cited. Hotel officials have declined to comment. However, I’d be happy to. I think the owner was actually a hostage. Seriously? Who brings a snake to a hotel? Even creepy guys with girls who think snakes are sexy don’t bring snakes to hotel rooms. I think he was able to distract the snake (perhaps a mouse scurrying in the bathroom) and then make a run for it…and the only thing that saved him from a high speed takedown in the parking lot…and that snakes often have trouble with round doorknobs. It’s just hard to imagine the surprise of the other guest. They probably had been holding it for the last half hour, the guy checking them in took forever, they scurry to the room, have to deal with a real key, which can be a bother when you’re about to piss yourself, mad dash to the bathroom, pop open the lid, and start the evacuation process…but then you realize that your stream sounds a little odd. “Holy sh*t!!! Is that a snake?” Of course you continue because…well, what else are you going to do? You may take a step back and adjust the golden arch a bit…but you’re not going to stop. Luckily the snake is blinded before he can execute an effective attack. I know what you’re thinking…and it does kinda sound like something from a late G.I. Joe episode (“We’ll attack the Joesss where they’re mossssst vulnerable.” “Where is that, Commander?” “ON THE JOHN!!! RELEASSSSE THE DRAIN SNAKESSSS!!!”) but this really happened. So be careful out there. You never know when the Apocalypse works its way into your crapper.

Judge Dredd Reboot - DNA Films, Reliance Big Entertainment and IM Global are teaming to develop a 3D film adaptation of John Wagner's UK comic "Judge Dredd" reports Deadline. Alex Garland ("28 Days Later," "Sunshine") penned the script and Pete Travis ("Vantage Point") will direct the sub-$50 million project set in a futuristic world where cops have become judge, jury and executioner. The project will ignore the big-budget 1995 film adaptation starring Sylvester Stallone and will go back to the comic's roots. Despite DNA's deal with Fox, it seems Fox won't be involved in the project (oh, so no Megan Fox then either? What’s the point?). So yet another comic book reboot trying to follow in the footsteps of Batman, Star Trek, the Incredible Hulk, and many others (not Superman though…because that one sucked). The question remains though, how can you possibly ignore Stallone’s Judge Dredd? “I AM THE LAW!!!” Sure there was a lot of cheese (Rob Schneider) but there was also Armand Assante, Diane Lane, & Max Van Sydow…and you know what you’re in for when you watch a Stallone flick. You don’t expect an Oscar winning performance when the title’s “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot!” where he’s teamed up with a Golden Girl. Hell, you don’t even expect it in a movie titled “Oscar” but you get muscles (even in his sixties, which I have to tip my hat to), one liners, and monologues that may require subtitles…or at least some sound editing. By the way, anybody else seen the preview for “The Expendables” yet? Holy crap, I can’t wait…and I’m certain that Jason Statham will get a nod for Best Supporting Actor. What? You don’t? Of course you don’t. It’s not that kind of movie. (However, that being said, I do kind of expect Jason Statham to get a call about playing Judge Dredd in this reboot…but more on that as news happens) So yeah…lots of comic book movies in the works right now…in fact, here’s a bit of an update that may just set everything up for the Apocalypse.

Summer of 2012 Movies - Warner Bros. Pictures has announced a July 20th 2012 release date for the upcoming third "Batman" feature following on from 2005's "Batman Begins" and 2008's "The Dark Knight". The date is no major surprise - 'Dark Knight' opened July 18th 2008 while director Chris Nolan's upcoming thriller "Inception" opens July 16th this year and both are day-and-date international releases which the next "Batman" is extremely likely to be. Warners didn't confirm that Nolan was returning with the announcement, only the date itself was revealed. Okay, so kinda awesome. It looks like there’ll be a third movie in the Batman reboot series…maybe with the Penguin or Riddler or…dare I even think, Catwoman (Purrrrrrrrfect…)? The big news though…is that he July 20th date puts the opening two weeks after Sony's "Spider-Man" reboot on July 3rd and three weeks after Paramount's "Star Trek" sequel on June 29th. Marvel's high-profile "The Avengers" also opens earlier that summer on May 4th. IESB added to the report indicating that the studio's planned upcoming "Superman" reboot is targeting a Christmas 2012 release (12-21-2012 maybe?) and adds a more dubious but interesting claim of tying it in with "Green Lantern" and the existing Nolan "Batman" films much like Marvel is doing with "The Avengers" for a possible “Justice League” movie…but they’ve been talking about that for decades to no avail. So there you go. In the summer of 2012, you basically have all of the major movie franchises from the past decade dropping at basically the same time. Oh…and I’m sure there’ll be about four more Saw movies between now and then, just to make sure they’re recognized as a major movie franchise. By the way, with the whole “Justice League” thing, right now I’d basically settle for “Wonder Woman” and I know just the actress to fill out that costume…but more on her later.

Swearing in Philadelphia - An American rights group is suing the police in Pennsylvania for issuing tickets, which carry a jail sentence, to people for swearing. Oh yes. Welcome to the Quaker State. Oh wait, sorry. Pennsylvania’s the Keystone State (always smooth, like Keith Stone). Anyway, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which filed the lawsuits earlier, argues that the right to use profanity is protected by the U.S. Constitution. Where? The first f**king amendment!!! "Unfortunately, many police departments in the commonwealth do not seem to be getting the message that swearing is not a crime," said Marieke Tuthill of the ACLU of Pennsylvania. "The courts have repeatedly found that profanity, unlike obscenity, is protected speech." Obscenity, under the Supreme Court's definition, refers to speech that mainly appeals to the "prurient interest" in sex, according to the ACLU. One lawsuit involves an unidentified woman in Luzerne County in northeast Pennsylvania who was given a citation which carries a maximum penalty of $300 and 90 days in jail after she yelled an offensive word at a motorcyclist who swerved close to her in October 2008 (“No officer, I said…fudge you…and your…hunt for your mother”). In a separate case a man was arrested, cited for disorderly conduct and briefly jailed after shouting a double expletive at a policeman who was writing him a parking ticket (Is a double expletive like “sh*t-wh*re” or something?). The two are among at least 750 people in Pennsylvania a year who face illegal disorderly conduct charges because of the use of profanity in Pennsylvania, the ACLU said. Citations for swearing have also been handed out in other states including Michigan and New York, according to the ACLU, which said it has successfully defended about a dozen people in profanity prosecutions. But the group added that there are more citations given out in Pennsylvania than other states. "Cops don't understand that there's a legal definition of obscenity and therefore issue citations for profanity," said Sara Mullen, a spokeswoman for the ACLU. Tuthill added that the ACLU will continue to bring lawsuits until the practice of issuing citations for swearing is stopped. Pennsylvania state police were not immediately available for comment…but I’m sure it would be something along the lines of “Are you f**king kidding me?” Yes, you can get cited for swearing in public in Pennsylvania. I happen to know for a fact, that in Utah, you only get a stern look from blonde-haired, blue-eyed Stepford Wives for doing so. No jail sentence (unless you count exile). What’s the point? Nothing really. The ACLU has got your back. Remember the Tourettes Defense. And most importantly, be sure to keep Megan Fox out of Pennsylvania.

Fox Update - Megan Fox may be pretty but things get ugly when she is photographed in the nude. In the June issue of Allure, the 24-year-old star of "Transformers" says she has no qualms about hurting the paparazzi photographer who snapped a topless photo of her on the set of her new film (hitting the internet near you). "If I knew who took this picture, I would personally cause them harm - physical harm," she said in the magazine’s upcoming issue. At the time the unauthorized photo was taken, Fox was shooting an independent feature called "Passion Play,” in which she stars alongside Mickey Rourke as a circus sideshow performer (and apparently the luckiest mother f**ker alive). "I'm at my job and I’m trying to play a character and I'm trying to be serious, and this is the sh*t that's happening to me," Fox told the magazine. "It makes me furious." The raven-haired bombshell is often photographed off set around Los Angeles with her on-again, off-again beau of five years, Brian Austin Green. But she does not appreciate being tabloid fodder - even with her top on. "I’m not a f***ing reality-TV star that’s courting the paparazzi and wants my f***ing picture taken all the time," she told Allure. Fox, who is known for speaking her mind, dropped multiple f-bombs during her chat with the fashion magazine, but only six made it to print (enough to permanently scar an Amish child). "I'm going to spend 20 years never saying anything interesting? Never telling a joke? Never pushing anyone's buttons? I'm a person, I'm not a robot." Though she may have a dirty mouth, Fox can't stand dirt as a rule. The actress told the magazine that she suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which means she can't use public cutlery or enter a restroom without feeling uncomfortable. "This is a sickness, I have an illness," she told the magazine. Try Orbit gum. Anyway, as much fun as it is thinking about Megan Fox topless & talking like a filthy sailor as I help her clean those hard-to-reach places, let’s talk about paparazzi. Should they be beaten about the face & neck for invading the privacy of others? I’m kinda fond of the idea. We’ll call it “occupational hazard”, right? Do I blame them for Princess Di’s death? In part. That driver was going to damn fast too. Don’t you know that the best way to keep the motorcycle paparazzi at bay is to abruptly swerve instead of speed up? That’s like the gimme on the driving test in France. Oh yes, I’m familiar with European driving codes as well. I’ve experienced the roundabouts. Then again, it’s also difficult to want to physically harm a man (or woman) who shared Megan Fox’s breasts with the world. I’ll admit, I’m a little torn on the issue…but I’ve got your back, Megan. I hope you find that person and get your sweet, sexy vengeance…and then hopefully TMZ is able to get some footage of that…because that’d be pretty sweet…and then we could kick their ass too.

Anyway, that’ll do it for tonight. Thanks again for listening to me rant about whatever. Hopefully you got a laugh or two out of it, maybe a new thought or perspective on life, maybe you just like the pictures of hot chicks. No worries. I do to. So until tomorrow or whenever I holla atcha again, have a great day everybody!!!
